Greetings Tabletop Warriors,

The April Open Gaming Meet will be held on the 1st Saturday of the month, April 4, in the rooftop Function Room of Vibal Publishing House, 1253 G. Araneta Avenue, Quezon City, from 1pm til 9:30pm.  This will be the FIRST gathering at the new place place.  You can find a downloadable ZIP file of a map here.

The OGM is an informal gathering of tabletop games enthusiasts from various groups (like Tabletop Wars, Philboardgamers, A.E.G.I.S., New Worlds Alliance, Rolling Hills Gaming Club, & UP Hobby Gaming Circle just to name a few) who try out new games and/or play favourites games, be it Boardgames, Miniature War Games, RPGs, Card Games, or Board Wargames, with friends - new and old.

We have the following house rules and expect every participant to adhere to them:

- there will be 2 gaming tables set outside for those that want to smoke while gaming.  The Function Room interior is a no-smoking area.

- although the Function Room is a large place, we ask that all participants please be mindful of your fellow players nearby by not being too loud when playing a game.

- IDs are handed out to participants, so that it'll be easier to know who is who, and we'll be taking it back before you leave.

- look for those wearing a purple sash to know who are the OGM Organizers, while the OGM Host also wears a Jester's cap. = )

- avoid putting food or drinks on the same table as the games - a lot of these games are not cheap, or they're already out of print, or both, so please be considerate to the owner of the game.

- if you must eat while gaming, use a nearby empty table (if available) to eat your food.  If a spare table is unavailable, eat / drink in such a way that crumbs / droplets will not fall on the game pieces.

- practice "clean as you go" - make sure that the tables are devoid of wrappers / empty bottles / etc. when you vacate it - so that the next group of players won't spend time cleaning up your mess.

- there is a 30 minute grace period at the end of the meet so the volunteer crew can pack up without being stressed out - that's why the meet time is only until 9:30pm now, the remaining 30 minutes til 10pm is used for packing / clean up.

- there's a "wait to be served" policy at the cantina - this is due to past experience that some people just grabbing reserved food / drinks and just leaving the pay on the counter.

Planned Games for the APR. OGM are:

FORMULA V 09 Season
Using the Formula D game, this will be the start of a series of 10 game sessions held from Feb. until Nov.  Points are scored every session and a Driver's / Team Champion is "crowned" at the final race (the winners get a prize).  The game is open for 10 player and will start at around 9pm.  Look for VJ on that day if you wish to participate.

L5R CCG Demo
Aerol Bibat and Mark Navarro will be holding court at one of the tables as they teach any and all interested on how to play the Legend of the Five Rings CCG.  Look for them on that day (can't miss it, the table will be full of cards).

AEROL's GAME TESTS
Aside from holding demos of the L5R CCG (see above), Aerol will also be testing 3 games that he developed and will be looking for game testers - Wu Xia, Betcha Don't Know and SEVEN.  Look for Aerol on that day and inform him of which game you'd like to help him test out.

I will wait for a few days before posting this announcement at the other forums, to give the TW members a chance to include any particular game they'd like to run on that day.

Aside from the games mentioned above, the following will be showing up on that day as well:
       boardgame for 3-5 players

party card game for 4-7 players
       boardgame for 3-6 players

tile laying game for 2-5 players
party card game for 2-7 players
       party cardgame for 2-4 players
       boardgame for 2-4 players
party card game for 3-6 players
party card game for 3-6 players
party card game for 2-6 players
party card game for 3-8 players
       boardgame for 3-7 players
       boardgame for 2-8 players
       dice game for 2-6 players
party card game for 3-8 players
       chess-like game for 2 players
party card game for 2-6 players
party card game for 3-5 players
       dice game for 2-6 players
       boardgame for 2-4 players
       boardgame for 3-4 players
       boardgame for 4-8 players
       boardgame for 3-7 players
       boardgame for 1-6 players

This thread will be updated if there will be any additional games being brought and/or planned games.

Once you're in the Vibal Publishing House compound, please inform the security officers that you're there for the event at the rooftop function room.  They will lead you to the elevator at the lobby, which you'll take to the top floor - please avoid using the stairs and going to the other parts of the building, since you are not authorized in those areas.

REMINDER: The starting and ending time has been adjusted from the Residencia OGM due to concerns about the participant's safety when they leave the OGM late at night.  The Vibal OGM will start at 1pm and end at 9:30pm.

Please note that all participants must pay an Entrance Fee of 50 pesos when entering the OGM.  For people bringing in guests, you may cover for their entrance.

This is to make it fair to all participating, regardless if they're playing or not, since what is paid for is the "space" that they occupie while at the venue.

The purpose of the Entrance Fee is to not only cover for the cost of renting out the venue, but to gather any excess to reach a Financial Stability wherein should the OGM be required to rent other venues in the future, it has the necessary resources at hand.

I'm the type of guy who likes to play til the wee hours of the night so I'm a bit disappointed at the earlier dismissal but I understand the safety issue. The new time means its only an hour shorter than Residencia so its ultimately ok I guess  Smiley

I'm attempting to bring my regulars to OGM. Wish me luck cuz if I'm successful I can bring in as much as 15  Tongue

I'll be bringing Red November. Tried it out in Hobbymania and it was a success.

Also I was thinking: Since a lot of people seem to have Navia Dratp sets how about we all bring them and have some sort of Navia Dratp tournament? Reading the forums I count about 6 people with sets. If we have 8 we have enough for a 16-man Quarter Finals  Smiley

Well technically speaking I reserved Vibal til 12 midnight so nothing really stops us from continuing to play there but I think the organizers may have a point regarding safety (at least until people get a hang of the place) so offering them the "temptation" of playing til 12 might not be in people's best interest.

I can offer my house in Rolling Hills, New Manila afterwards I guess. Its not that far from the venue

Hi Jay,

Actually the gaming time has always been 9 hours, we just use the last 30 minutes to clean and pack up at Residencia since we don't want Mark H. paying an extra full hour for the fraction past 12 midnight when closing.  Knowing that  you've reserved the place til midnight, means we won't be rushed in "closing shop". Cool

Personally, I have no problems if some of the guys decide to stay behind to keep playing - as long as they know that they'll be able to leave Vibal with others (and preferrably in a private vehicle - we don't think it's a good idea to leave the area by walking, even if you're a group).  BUT, please note that it's just my opinion and not that of the OGM Organizers.  Maybe we should have some waivers signed. Tongue

*blink*

I hope you'll be successful in inviting your 15 regulars to participate in the OGM.

*blink*

I've updated the formal announcement and the notepad that I'll copy when posting to the other forums in regards to Red November.  If you intend to run the game at a specific time, we can then make it a planned game.

*blink*

Tybalt has been thinking of having a Navia Dratp tournament as well.  I've uploaded the official tournament rules for Navia Dratp -  they use Swiss tourney rules.

This can actually be an ongoing tournament, wherein 2 contestants would complete their tournament round on an OGM.  I'll go make a separate thread for this.

The announcement kinda gives the impression that people have to leave by 930pm when they can actually stay up to midnight.  Many games are still in full swing at 9pm (even hours after that) and the people are used to ending at 1130pm.  I believe we should keep it that way.  The longer gaming the hours are, the better in my opinion too.

Considering that the area is in a rougher part of town compared to Residencia, maybe some warnings should be made about safety?

Er,

Isn't that what I did? Huh

That's why officially the OGM will close at 9:30pm, and that is what is on the formal announcement.  There's even a Reminder that informs the reader of the new times and why we want to end earlier.

We believe that 10pm is still a good enough time when travelling out of the Vibal area.

As I've emphasized in my reply to Jay, it's just my personal opinion (as a player and not as an OGM Organizer) that if people want to play past the closing of the OGM, that's perfectly okay.  With the caveat that they accept the risks when leaving at a much later time.

By no fault of Vibal, it just happens to have a squatter area as a neighbor.  And frankly, is gambling your life / money worth it for just a few more hours of gaming?

Okay, so am I correct in understanding that officially, the OGM closes at 9, but we actually have the place reserved until 12?  In other words, we can stay past 9 if we like, but concerns over safety become higher as it gets later?

Yes, that is correct,

The OGM will end at 9:30pm, despite the fact that Vibal's Function Room is reserved until 12mn.

We hope that most of the participants will take the cue and leave at around 10pm.  Past that, anyone that wants to stay will have to secure Jay's permission.  Should Jay leave by 10-ish, then those that stayed behind must leave when he does.

We would feel really, really sad if we find out that something bad happened to anybody that opted to stay past the closing of the OGM when they finally headed home.

Vic -- just to get a sense of where people are on this "ending time", can you make a poll about it?  I just want to get a sense of who are those willing to stay after 930pm, if any, how many, and until what time?

Might be helpful to Jay also, as of course after 930pm it is Jay who needs to be the barometer of how long people will stay.
