Fantasy Flight Games to Discontinue Distribution of New Products from Rackham
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Fantasy Flight Games (FFG) announced today that it will, effective immediately, no longer be distributing new releases for Rackham's AT-43 and Confrontation lines. FFG will continue to supply backstock of these lines while supplies last.
Specifically, FFG will not be distributing product from Wave 8 (originally scheduled for late September) and forward. Retailers and Distributors interested in these new products are encouraged to contact Rackham directly.
FFG extends its appreciation to the retailers and distributors who have carried these lines under our tenure, and to
Rackham for allowing us to distribute its beautiful range of games and miniatures in the past many months.

Dear Partners,
Thanks to the support of ENTREPRENEUR VENTURES, one of the leading French actors in the field of Venture Capital, we are pleased to announce the creation of the company RACKHAM ENTERTAINMENT.
RACKHAM ENTERTAINMENT has acquired on October 28th, 2008 all assets and production means of RACKHAM SA. RACKHAM ENTERTAINMENT will continue to count on the unique expertise of the RACKHAM SA Design Studio.
RACKHAM ENTERTAINMENT plans to continue developing the existing game universes, AT-43 and CONFRONTATION, as well as new game universes including by acquisition of licenses.
The Design Studio has already conceived the products for CONFRONTATION and AT-43 for the next 12 months. We are pleased to announce that RACKHAM ENTERTAINMENT will be
able to market these new products within a very short period of time. These releases will be available on a monthly basis, and will be released simultaneously worldwide. A new releases planning for the 2009 year will be available in the upcoming days. This sure will delight even the most demanding players.
Thus, RACKHAM ENTERTAINMENT is able to announce that the Wave-08 will be available in stores at the end of November 2008. This Wave will be followed by Wave-09 in December2008.
RACKHAM ENTERTAINMENT, and its american partners, will work in unison to ensure the North American stores will receive on a regular basis these new releases as well as marketing and promotion tools. For this reason, in the next couple of weeks North American Distributors and RACKHAM ENTERTAINMENT will start developing various marketing operations, including the establishment of organized play.

Rules available on BGG -
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/file/info/21398
Because of the recent FFG sale, I was able to get a few figures, thanks to some friends who flew in from the US last night
I got 1 set of the Dragomirov Kolossus units and 1 set of Death Dealer TacArms. I would have ordered more but I'm on a tight budget.
I was surprised to find that the Kolossus units actually have ball joints in the shoulders, can tilt forward and backward at the hips, and can swing the lower front armor plate open and shut. The detail is incredible for figures this size.
Of course, my biggest fear was the reports I'd seen on BGG about figures being received in damaged condition, so I requested that FFG check the figs for damage before shipping. I don't know if they did, but one of the TacArms arrived with its right arm/MG broken off. My friends just superglued it on, so when I got the figs, I couldn't even tell which one had been broken.
Note position of right arm and front armor plate on the Kolossus (figure on left)
I can't afford to get into this game as a hobby, but I can use the figs for other games
they are somewhat too big for the Doom gameboard, but maybe they can still be used for Heroscape...

hmmm i was able to see the first batch of models for the game when someone ordered the starter when it came out... and when i saw the batches that some shop in Singapore carried... the one thing that struck me was that there was a drop in the quality of the minis.
im not sure maybe it was just me. but can i ask those that have the AT-43 minis what you think of the quality? details? articulation? and paint?
hehe
oh and for the price is it worth it?

I don't know about the first batch of models - these are the only AT-43 figs I've ever handled, but I'll say that the detail and workmanship are very good.
Flash/mold lines are visible if you are looking for them; the Kolossus sergeant's left arm seems stuck in place - maybe that's the one my friend glued? I dunno - but apart from that, I like them just fine. The paint jobs make them look very good and include such detail as weathering and what looks like rust. All in all I would rate them as better than many of my Heroscape figs, and just as good as (or slightly better than) the best of them.
As for articulation, only the Kolossus figs (light gray/maroon paint job) are articulated. It can tilt its torso about 35 degrees forward and more than 50 backward; the shoulder ball joints appear to have full motion, but the size of the weapon arms prevent some poses. I'd say the articulation on these is nice, not great, but definitely better than nothing.
As for the price, I got these from the Fantasy Flight sale which was 66% off, and at that price I wish I had bought many more. But at the old price? Totally insane. Waaay too expensive for me.

I know this is an old game, but I saw it cheap at an online store (probly remnants of the FFG sale) and was thinking of getting a couple of army boxes for casual play. So which books are needed for the rules (is this similar to warhammer rulebook + codex)? The army box seems complete for the accessories (having templates, dice and such) is this all that's needed or are there other stuff that needs to be bought? And finally is the game fun?

I don't think I've heard of anyone here who's invested heavily enough to make a full army....anyone want to confirm?
Incidentally I found out recently that my Death Dealer TacArms also have some articulation - they can rotate at the waist, and the shoulder joints appear to be slightly movable. (the gray armor suit in the 2nd pic above).
And as far as I understand, yes it is like warhammer's codex setup - you need the army book for your faction in order to play.
