this is a racing game using an innovative system of car and pawn to move the vehicles. i bought the game bec im an F-1 fan and have been looking for a car game that didnt use dice or cards the represent the movements ... well dice i dont mind but its not really easy to find a copy of formula de these days.
anyway on with the review
game components:
this game is generally made very solidly from the box down to most of the other components. the map is mad up of 8 interlocking peices (yes its not a fold up map) these join via jigsaw locks and give the players 2 race courses to choose from. the design is simple , printing crisp , and material sturdy
the cars are cute plastic peices that i feel could have been made better but i have to concede that its not easy to find good F1 models in that scale. BGG has pics of small metal cars of the correct scale... if anyone knows where to get these please let me know hehe these are complimented by plastic pawns which can be stacked in case players land them on the same place. not much to comment here though.
the rules come in three languages and are printed on glossy paper which really gives it a good feel when your reading it. the presentation of the rules however gives you the feeling that its not originally written in english (i think its really not). somehow the translation affected the ease with which t understand the rules but not so much that it makes the game impossible to play immediately.
there is also a ruler and some stat sheets to keep track and measure stuff in the game.
Rules:
i guess the rule of most note is the movement for the vehicles. this is the first time i have actually seen physics incorporated into a game.
when you car moves a certain distance say 5 squares forward, you place the pawn an additional 5 squares in front of you. for your next move you can only move your car within 2 squares of where your current pawns location is, further means your shifting your gear up, nearer means your shifting gear down. this reflects the momentum of your car as it ravels the track and becomes interesting as you approache the corners. if you speed up to the maximum which is 7, your pawn might just fly off the board... meaning the next turn your car follows

I tried running 1 car through the course and found it quite challenging and deffinitely will take some skill.
the game was designed for 8 players and has simple as well as advance rules. the simple rules include sharp breaking, booster, slipstream, and engaging. the advance rules include weather , fuel, tire wear, etc.
Rules wise if you love racing, this is deffinitely an interesting game. if your nto such a fan, the simple rules set will still prove enjoyable esp in big groups as you all try to run each other over

Notes:
the pricing of the game (about P2,700) is a bit expensive but i feel is still worth it. there are only 2 track though and if you want additiona tracks there is an expansion which i feel is a bit overpriced. i wish they had included the other tracks with the main set. or perhaps offered a package.
the rules i found to be innovative and very interesting. its deffinitely a must try for game enthusiasts if only to get a feel of a different system. I would also deffintly recomend this for racing fanatics for those days where your waiting for that next race of the season
