Formula D

'Formula D' to Include Limited Edition Porsche

Asmodee’s much-anticipated new edition of its Formula One racing game Formula De, titled Formula D to distinguish it from the original, will include a limited edition Porsche model and character card in the first 5000 copies sold worldwide.  As we’ve previously reported (see “New Games from Asmodee”), the new edition will include not only Formula One racing, but also street racing.

The map on which the game is played will have two sides, one depicting the Formula One Monaco course, and the other a street racing course.  Every car will have an associated character.  The characters associated with the street racing cars will have different strengths, unlike the Formula One characters, which all have the same strengths.

Formula D is slated for release in North America in November.

Waaaah!

   Me want limited edition!!!

I wonder how much it would cost though?  Good thing I start work on October 6, hopefully I'll be able to save up to buy one.

After that, the only other planned purchase is the new Family Business, then I start saving for my retirement. Grin

Formula D, an updated version of the 1991 game Formula Dé, is scheduled to be available in early November, according to game publisher Asmodée Editions. "Formula D has been completely re-designed, the graphic contents have been updated and modernized, and each element has been thoughtfully revitalized to generate a more realistic gaming sensation," according to a company press release. "Players now enjoy beautifully painted cars, super-realistic gear levers, and many more hidden surprises."

Formula D includes two courses, one based on the Monaco Grand Prix course and the other a city-based street course. (The street course rules include the possibility of angry residents shooting at the cars.) It also features two rulebooks, one for beginners and one for advanced players. Asmodée indicated that Formula D will be compatible with existing Formula Dé race courses. (At least 35 official course boards have been published.)

The original Formula Dé sold more than 100,000 copies worldwide. I am looking forward to playing Formula D, as I always enjoyed Formula Dé but have not played it as often as I would like to.

This little expansion only needs to be printed out and added on Formula D’s board. It adds a bit more chaos to a track already has more than its fair share.

Download the “Shortcut” file by clicking here or on the picture above (PDF - 2.40 Mo)

RULES:

As soon as a car stops or runs over one of the three pressure plates, the “shortcut” opens. As soon as a car stops or runs over one of the three pressure plates again, the “shortcut” closes…

Closed “Shortcut”
All the squares marked with an arrow cannot be stopped in – they are considered to be impassable walls.

Open “Shortcut”
The squares marked with an arrow can be crossed, but the are considered to be part of a curve, even if one stops on the entrance or exit square without taking the shortcut, per se: A player who doesn’t want to risk it should avoid going through the squares in question if he doesn’t want to suffer the usual penalties!

The first expansion tracks for FORMULA D are due at the end of the month.  Here's some preview images:

Sebring

Chicago

Sebring is a speed track with some very short one-stop curves.  Chicago East Park consists of intersections, a jump, and long stretches where there are only two lanes.  Shocked
