Talisman: The Reaper Expansion

The Grim Reaper card is a creation by Alessio Cavatore. Playing with this optional rule adds an extra element of tension and fun to the game.

The Grim Reaper is not a character. Rather, he plays his own game and all players may get a chance to interact with him. Whenever a player rolls a “1” for his move, he completes his turn as normal, but then must roll the die again and move the Grim Reaper according to the normal rules for moving a character. If the Grim Reaper lands on a character, that character must then roll a die and consult the Grim Reaper card to determine what happens to him.

Encounters with the Grim Reaper are usually dangerous, but there are a couple of results that prove beneficial. For example, rolling a 5 allows you to move the Grim Reaper to a character of your choice, which may result in some payback if the player moved the Reaper on you to begin with!

---

Will You Look Death in the Eye?

An unearthly chill creeps through the air. The Wizard stops reading his ancient tome and  gazes cautiously over his shoulder. The Warrior feels an unfamiliar fear as he draws his mighty sword.

A shadow has fallen across the countryside. Death himself wanders the land. Can the heroes fulfill their epic quests with the spectre of the Grim Reaper hounding their every move?

The Reaper expansion offers Talisman Revised 4th Edition players;

  • 4 new character cards and plastic figures
  • 90 new Adventure Cards
  • 26 new Spell Cards
  • 12 Warlock Quest Cards
  • The Grim Reaper (a dark figure that players manipulate against each other)

The race to the Crown of Command has never been deadlier!

Fantasy Flight Games, the publisher of the Revised 4th Edition of Talisman has the ff. promo:

If you preorder the Reaper expansion at your local gaming store, you will be able to get two promo cards, the Doppelganger and the Instructor.  Download and fill out the following form that can be found here. Take it to your local gaming store and present it with your pre-order to be eligible for these two promo cards! Supplies are limited so they will be handled on a first come first serve basis, so get your pre-orders in early.

My question is: Will Neutral Grounds be offering this promo as well or are they going to even sell these new editions of TALISMAN?

Yes, the promo was until 19th of December 2008 only.  But I read some people still got the 2 cards from FFG and selected brick-n-mortar shops abroad even after the promo period.  I was just hoping that Neutral Grounds has taken advantage of this offer, got a few stocks of TALISMAN: THE REAPER Expansion to sell locally, and was able to get some of these promo cards to give away to buyers.  But if FFG are the ones to really hand out these cards then I guess I won't be able to get them anymore.  Tongue

The inclusion of the reaper is an interesting addition to Talisman to increase player interaction (AKA Screwage). It can greatly speed up the bloodbath variant, but I wouldn't use it normally as it can lengthen the game inordinately.
