I'm not sure if the OGM planners are aware of this group already, since I am new to the hobby and most of you guys are stalwarts of teh hobby (good thing i did not use the word e l d _ r s (and no its not the WH40k race)).

Hong Kong Society of Wargamers' about page

What I want to point out from this group is its membership system.

Quote
Short-term visitors to Hong Kong are not charged and will be made welcome but otherwise our rule for residents is, first time free, second time must join; our annual subs are HK$100 for newly joining members who receive a complimentary HKSW sports shirt - tastefully done in black and featuring our hoplite logo, picked out in silver thread. Every wargamer should have one! Membership renewal is a bargain HK$50. Attendees are charged a further HK$40 per meeting, this includes for the cost of the venues and sandwiches provided free at the Police Mess (there is waiter service for food at the Hitec venue); both venues have a reasonably priced cash bar.

I know if you convert those prices its a bit pricey using a PHP 7 = HKD 1 but I guess we can scale it down to our own economy and needs. Whats nice about the system is that the group has its own funds meaning it won't be difficult for us to find venues and such because we would have starting capital. More important is that theres a required investment on the part of the people playing.

Anyway I thought I would share this to the organizers because I feel that it might give them some idea on how we can improve the OGMs Cheesy

Feel free to BANG! or gangrape (pwede ba itong word dito sa forums?) me with your opinions about this...

What's great with TW and the OGM right now is that its a growing organization with lots of room for suggestions like this. From what I can see of the OGM, its primary goal is to get people together into one location to enjoy boardgames. It may be possible that, considering our steady growth last year in both population and the intensity of the interest among members, it may be time for some things to evolve. I dunno, it sounds like sooner or later we do have to aim for something more? Feels exciting Smiley I leave it to the powers that be to raise the challenges.

Your preferred methods of constructive criticism is rather odd.

Annual membership fee? Probably thats a possibility for our OGMs in d future. I'm guessing if u do that too soon u'll c a drastic drop in attendance. Among other reasons, d current int'l economic slump (if u can call it that) might've changed ppl's management of discretionary income.

We need to think about not alienating ppl who travel from afar (e.g. Laguna, etc.) since it won't be equitable for them to join considering they might not make d long commute.
To maximize their OGM fees they'll have to stay late & that'll b a problem considering they got about two hours of night commute ahead of them.

I can open 2 of my guest rooms for these OGM pilgrims to help-out so they can crash for the night & do their journey home refreshed; with d requirement dat I've known dem reasonably enough to do so of cors.

Merchandising is another possible funding source. I'm guessing the OGM peeps don't know contacts yet who can hook them up?
It'll b interesting to see how this goes.

Our current small canteen works so far, but I wonder by throwing in a "freebie" (e.g. sandwich, drink, trinket, etc.) is a feasable idea to increase the OGM fee & get d needed funding?
