Hi. This is Jay Mata of Hobbymania (You may recognize me as one who passed the fliers of the Hobbymania at the January OGM). We are a new hobby place that just set up and we are honored to become part of this ever growing community. Hopefully our simple little business can be the place to satisfy our mutual gaming needs  Grin. Our services ranges the gamut of gaming: Videogames, board games, pen-and-paper role playing games and old-school classic "geek" films and TV shows.

Hobbymania's address is Mezzanine 2 Burgundy Transpacific, Taft, Manila. The building can be easily located right across the DLSU football field. (The building has a cello's donuts and a bench fix salon in front). just enter and the 2nd door to your right is it (It has videogame and boardgame posters on the door)

I'll try to answer all questions here but if anyone has any more questions regarding the place and its details, you may reach me at my cel# number 09209218482 or e-mail me at shugenjajvfx@yahoo.com

Hope to see you guys soon at Hobbymania!  Smiley

In addition, do you also serve food and drinks? Pictures of your place would be very much appreciated. This is great though, another point in manila getting a dedicated location for boardgaming Smiley

Just one question for me

Will you also be selling/ getting orders for boardgames in your place?

Actually its just ChineezPinoy who is a tough customer
(tip: just give him info about any beautiful and pretty regulars in your place and he'll be your best friend)

Its also quite funny that the 2 places where boardgames are widely available are in Ateneo and DLSU... ibang klase talaga sa Pilipinas.

I think its a good idea, colleges mean students with extra money to spend. And games are always a welcome outlet for splurging excess mulah Cheesy

Wow. I've been gone only an hour or so and already lots of questions  Tongue Oh well.. here goes  Smiley

How do playing board games work?  Do you charge by the hour?  What are the current games available?

We will charge by the hour and by the table. We will be testing out different rates in the coming weeks to see what people will be satisfied with but at the moment it is tentatively set at 60 pesos per hour

Also in case you are interested we charge 25 pesos per hour (with a promo of 100 pesos for 5 hours) for PC games. Nintendo Wii also coming soon

Because we are just starting out our list is still comparatively small but we are committed to having new games every month based on customer requests (we have a budget set aside just for that). We will also allow people to bring in their own games as well. Here is our list of games from the top of my head:

Board games:
Settlers of Catan (w/ 5-6 player expansion), Puerto Rico, Ticket to Ride, Zombies!!! (w/ Zombie Corps(e) and Six feet down under expansions), Arkham Horror (w/ Dunwich Horror Expansion), Risk Classic, Risk 2210AD, Scrabble, Monopoly, Cluedo, Uno, Carcassone

Role Playing Games: Dungeons and Dragons core books (4th, 3.5 and 2nd edition... the books for 3.5 in particular are too many to mention), All new World of Darkness Core books (Standard, Vampire, Mage, Werewolf, Promethian, Changeling, Hunter). The 3 Scion books (Scion, Demigod, God), BESM, old World of Darkness Werewolf and Hunter and finally Star Wars D20... we also offer the dice and printing of the character sheets plus the use of a laptop with dice rolling software and other DM tools if requested

In addition, do you also serve food and drinks?

Yes we do. Drinks and junk foods galore. For meals, dumplings and siomai with rice will be served initially but plans are to expand the menu soon

From my past DLSU years parking has been a real pain.
How u guys address this?

This is, sadly, a challenge of the area no matter what we do  Tongue. Luckily a parking lot has opened right beside our building and it usually isn't full in the mid-afternoon,evenings and weekends. We are also seriously considering reserving a spot or two of this parking lot specifically for customers of Hobbymania if the amount of people we get justifies the cost (So spread the word  Grin )

Will you also be selling/ getting orders for boardgames in your place?

Not directly but as I mentioned we do plan to constantly update our list of games so I see no reason why we can't add a customer's orders with our own purchases.

Is it near the LRT station?

Yes. Vito Cruz Station is right on top of DLSU so you should have no trouble finding it from there  Smiley

Hope these answers our what you needed to hear  Smiley

Nice answers galing Cheesy

Ganyan talaga dito kapag ganitong oras maraming online pero sa umaga mej matumal.

I think the multiple options regarding table rates is good.

Oh yeah wouldn't the noise coming from the computers be too loud and disrupt the people playing tabletop games?

From my experience board game players tend to be just as noisy  Grin

All kidding aside we did think about that and the PCs are all equipped with headsets and we disabled the option to use the audio speakers requiring them to stick with the headsets. There's nothing we can do about any shouting though but rest assured we would not be afraid to tell the gamers to keep the noise level down. If it makes you feel any better ALL of us working in Hobbymania are gamers (both tabletop and video) and we like to think we know how to handle our own kind  Wink

Higher rate than GC?
Is rent that expensive ba @ that area?

Well as long as ur game "masters" or "instructors" r all definite eye-candies & willing to keep d customers company then it might work  Wink
Oops, gaming cafe pala ito hindi bar  Grin

Now if ders a few free parking available, like in Katipunan, then dat'll b swell.

We will be testing out different rates in the coming weeks to see what people will be satisfied with but at the moment it is tentatively set at 2 options: (A) 100 pesos an hour per table (a table can fit 4 chairs so that divides to 25 pesos per person) (B) For one table 230 pesos for the first hour and 80 pesos for succeeding hours inclusive of 150 pesos worth of food and drinks. This translates to 80 pesos per table per hour (at 20 pesos per person) and is meant for people who are planning on eating and drinking a lot (thus rewarding them with a cheaper rate  Tongue )

Not sure about how Gamecrab's rates really work but from what I understand it is 40-45 pesos per head. As stated the rate is 100 pesos an hour is for a table... not per head. A table has 4 chairs so that actually translates to 25 pesos per head (even less if more people crowd around it as the rate stays regardless of how many people use the table... 6 i think can be a good maximum number).

Please correct me if I'm wrong  Smiley
