Small World

Teaser images of a new product from Days of Wonder, publisher of Ticket To Ride, Pirate's Cove, Mystery of the Abbey, etc.  People are still guessing what this new product is.  Looks like a Diablo-type RPG board game DOW style.

Aren't Wizards and the Amazons also Humans?  hmm... I feel there's a case of "categorization confusion" going on here.  Tongue

Probably they shud classify them as "Peasants" instead?  That might help.

The Contest of the Fourteen

There are rumored to be 14 different races in the land of Small World, all vying for supremacy in a merciless land grab. Next week will be your chance to lend one of them a charitable hand, by voting, rooting and campaigning hard for the one you deem worthy to rule them all!

Starting on Wednesday, January 28, we will be running a contest of a very different kind…

The prizes: Ten copies of the next Days of Wonder big box game (and no it ain’t a card game - there aren’t even cards in this one); and enough bumper stickers to satisfy the masses, or at least those that vote well. But read on…

The contest: It’s a popularity contest with a twist. Once all has been revealed next week, you will be invited to vote for the 3 races that you believe will garner the most top votes from fellow players.

A dedicated page on Boardgamegeek.com will display the current tally of votes in favor of each race, and give you a chance to vote for the three races that you believe will prove to be the most popular by the time the contest ends, on Wednesday, February 18 at noon CST.

The first ten players to correctly guess - as judged by the time and date of their vote in the contest - in correct order, which three races will garner the most top votes by contest’s end will win a free copy of Small World.

And ALL the players who correctly guess the top race (but not necessarily the next two) will receive a free Small World bumper sticker as a thank you bribe from the winning race!

How it really works: If you vote early, you will know little of your fellow players’ preferences; so guessing the top three races might be tricky. But… you get a chance to influence fellow voters by your early choice since the race you selected as your topmost one will display one vote in its favor. And you will have plenty of time to campaign hard, root for, chat, trick, seduce or bribe fellow players into voting your way.

If you vote late, you will likely know more about your fellow players’ inclinations (what do you mean, Tritons are number 1?!!!); but you run a much higher risk of being late to the party, with more than 10 fellow players having already correctly picked the winning trifecta, thus missing out on the big prize by being too conservative.

Of course, at any point during the course of the contest (and starting now, if you like lobbying early), you are welcome to talk and cajole friends, family members and co-workers to go register on boardgamegeek and vote your way.

So go ahead, start campaigning hard and fun, but remember… It’s a Small World, after all!

The masters of the known universe - well, Small World, that is - at Days of Wonder.

Lolz at the gay (happy) Elves Cheesy

I'm getting more and more intrigued with this game. Barely any info on the website (what Brel has posted is pretty much it already). Lets try our hand on that contest. At the very least, since its posted at the Geek, I hope they give away free microbadges for participating Cheesy

I second that.  I don't see any info restricting entrants based on location...who knows, we might actually win something Smiley

Wednesday jan. 28 right? I wonder what time the clock starts ticking for them...

As suspected, Small World is a... reimplement of VINCI!  With a fantasy theme.

Should be interesting to compare this to the old Vinci.  There seems to be the usual combining of powers / abilities, and the dynamic of putting your civilization in decline in favor of a new one.

Vinci owners... comments?
