This also got on the table last Friday night (haven’t gamed like this in a long time). We thought, well why not get Vanilla Small World on the table too?! And so we did. 3-player game. Officemates Quinito and BJ still.

This one we wouldn’t be able to finish, but I’d like to say that after playing SWU, playing SW felt bare. Almost like playing StarCraft after playing StarCraft 2. Am I saying that’s a bad thing? Hell no! Just like how the original StarCraft is still a good game in its own right, the original SW still stands very well on its own. There were still plenty of epic moments. Some noteworthy ones were:

1.   Just like in the first game, BJ gave everybody a big scare when he once again opened up the game strong with Imperial Leprechauns; racking up bonus points (while playing defensive) and complementing the Pot of Gold collection strategy.
2.   The Catapult Amazons however made short work of ½ of the map for a quick decline on turn 3.
3.   Marauding Orcs then proceeded to wipe out the whole Leprechaun race in one turn which resulted in an epic 17 point haul in one turn. Ouch.
4.   Pillaging Kobolds erasing the poor Diplomat Skeletons from the face of the earth, and then starting fresh the next turn on the other side of the map to get the jump on the unsuspecting Seafaring Giants!

So yeah, this game featured a bit more tactical play and the meta-game presented plenty of race-power combinations that allowed players to swarm the board quickly. Recognizing, utilizing and preparing against these combinations are things you pick up on as you play the game more and more. All in all, another epic game! #win
