erm... there is a thread for this game on this forums with the basic info so i wont bore you with those. Ill jump straight to my impressions of the game Smiley

Box & Components:

I like Repos bec their components are simple yet are of good quality. nothing fancy here, single colored plastic minis, Paper Board pop outs and dice. The minis are of durable plastic and not the easily bent kind, notably also is that there aren't much molding lines noticeable. the tokens and board tiles pop off their frames easily and without tearing.

What i found strange was the partitions in the box. once you pop the frames off and pack everything in again, it seems there is no way to pack the game up without bending the rulebook. oh and the dice are 'sqare' lol... erm not sure how to describe these but I personally prefer dice that are slightly round at the corners (the dice in the game are kinda like craps dice Smiley )

The art is fantastic in my opinion something in between anime and western. it actually reminds me a bit of penny arcade for some reason.

lastly and the only real complain i have is that the rulebook actually has typos XD. I dont mind the slight mistakes in spelling or grammar really, but when a rule thats supposed to read "reduced by 1" is suddenly typed as "reduced to 1" ... well hehe
anyway they included a sheet of paper that had the amendments noted there Smiley

Gameplay:

finally the important part. Tongue Ghost Stories is a Co-op game and am happy to say that it lives up pretty well to the genre. the rules will really encourage players to work with each other and utilize each ones abilities to help the overall success of the 4.

the rules actually noted that dead players are still in the game and can still "win" . kinda like a spirit adviser. and they can be resurrected so the players really either win together or loose horribly together.

one thing to note however, despite the game having a Shadows over Camelot feel (each player's turn is divided into bad side moves then good side moves), this game is probably not for new gamers. It is a very challenging game and so far i have only tried the 'initiation' level. i haven't even tried the 'normal' mode XD

of course so far i have only played the solitaire mode so it is on that that i can actually give relevant comments on. yes this game actually has a 1 player mode. for 1-3 player games, you get 'power tokens' that you can expend to use the abilities of the absent tao players.

the game is easy to learn fun to play but difficult to win... Tongue

anyway those are my initial impressions ill post a run through of the single player mode tonight ... hehe im in the office and my dad is giving me the menacing glance attack already haha @_@

A quick run-through of the gameplay

...with coments ;P

The board is set up with 9 Town tiles into a 3x3 square and player boards surround these. Each player board has 3 spaces where the ghost cards are placed, each card space aligned to a column of three town tiles.
Already you see how players naturally cross each others space .

Evil phase:

If there are any "haunting" ghosts (cards that summon a ring-wraith looking mini) on your board they move forward 1 space. There are 2 spaces and when the ghost reaches the space next to the town, the tile in front is flipped signifying it has been taken over. If any tile is already taken then the one next in line is flipped instead. If all 3 town tiles in the column are already flipped when the ghost reaches the town area, the players loose (count that: the first way to loose ... yay)

Some ghost cards have other effects like a the random evil die roll  instead of a haunting figure. These are resolved here as well.

When u get further into the game and ghosts start to gather around the town, the game gets really exciting. Seeing those haunters approach the town simultaneously is honestly rather scary

Next phase is to see if ur board has 3 ghost cards, if so loose a life (yes another way to die in the game XD)

If you have a vacant card space on your board, you get to draw a card. Yay!! the ghosts approach XD
I like the rules for placing the ghosts bec. you don't automatically place the ghost cards that you draw onto your own board, you will find that often times you end up placing ghosts on other player's boards. which I feel really stresses the co-op element of the game

Good guys turn:
Ah finally...
First is to move. Minis can be moved to any adjacent town tile, and diagonal moves are allowed. Simple 3x3 board means that movement is a very simple.

Next is either call for help from the town folk in your current tile, or exorcise the ghost (ghosts if your in a corner tile) adjacent to your tile.

The random placement of the Town tiles changes the strategy for each game as each Town location has a specific benefit. Things get even more interesting when powerful locations like the Temple or Prayer Circle are in dangerous locations (like in front of two approaching haunters.)

Combat in the game is simple. Players roll three dice and must generate equal number of colored circles corresponding to those printed on the Ghost card they are attempting to exorcise. amusingly you can spend "tao tokens" of corresponding colors to make up the difference in case you don't meet the die roll. the tokens depict items like Rice, Coins, Incense, Talismans, and Water if Memory serves me.

Oh yes... some ghosts will either reward you when you kill them by giving you life and other benefits. Unfortunately some ghosts will actually cause you additional harm when you get rid of them (kinda like a last ditch attack) and these can actually cause the players to loose the game even at the Final Boss...

ah the Final Boss. The whole game revolves around the incarnations of a great evil Wu feng (did i get that right? will edit later). the easy mode give one random incarnation placed ten cards before the bottom of the deck (yes you guessed it...! the only way to win is by exorcising this card when it comes out... and players must do so before the deck finishes... gasp!)

This makes the game Challenging if not Very difficult. some of the incarnations are easy whilst some are very very difficult in my opinion. some might say that the randomness of the encounter make the game more exciting, but honestly i'd prefer to put the easy ones in for the beginners...

any game that doesn't have 4 players sees the use of Power tokens to activate the power of those absent by those playing. in addition those non player boards still activate and receive 3 life tokens (if they loose the life the ability cant be activated anymore and further damage to said board is transferred to active players... yay)
the turn for such empty boards only consist of the haunting and evil dice roll phases and the board being over run thus loose one life phase.

Impressions:
I played single player a total of 4 times and lost all 4... -.-'' lol
honestly I feel the game is very challenging and fun. the difficulty, if your not easily turned off by such things, is actually part of its charm.
I hope to run this with more players to see if the game play changes though I expect it to get harder not easier.

for those who have played and enjoyed games like Shadows and Pandemic or other Co-op games, I'd recommend Ghost Stories deffinitely. or if your bored and want to just bake your brain a bit try running a solo game in nightmare mode... Tongue

I hope my review made sense haha and btw brel thanks sa kreds kahit na incomplete pa kanina post ko haha

Playtested two solo games earlier - definitely a keeper. Great mechanics overall. I'll try to play with more players pero kahit solo it's a great game.
