Apr. '09 OGM Session Report

GREETINGS!
As we say "HELLO" to
Vibal
's Function Room as the
Open Gaming Meet
's new venue, a good no. of people showed up to experience what the place is like - we expected around 35 participants, but we got
53
participants!
Games played this month were the following (based on my notes & my hazy recollection on what was played when). Despite the
OGM
"closing" at 10pm, I tracked some games played afterwards - marked with *. Protoype games are in all caps.

A few new faces this time around. There was
Jordan
(owner of
Tomb
&
Aerol
's friend);
Gabriel
(a
TW
member), & his wife,
Patricia
;
Carlos
,
Kikoy
, &
Paolo
(
Jay
's friends);
Arvin
(invited by
Brel
);
Nic
(friend of
Mark H.
); and lastly
Janelle
(
Jon
's daughter).
It was great to see
Whel
show up, although she had to leave early. Others that haven't been around for a while was
Joe
,
Steve
,
Jeff
, and
Alec
.
Notably
missed
were:
Tobie
and his gang of merry men,
Anabel
(who was heading to
Singapore
on that day),
Vlad
&
Dottie
,
Alger
&
Katrina
,
Allen
,
Dante
and his friends (like
Luna
,
Caroline
, etc.),
Benjie
,
Bon
,
Cy
&
Jessica
,
Carl
,
Joey G.
,
Albert
(whom I told was in
Japan
),
Johnny
,
Jovan
,
Marjo
,
Mark P.
(who said he wouldn't be around & ironically was called as a Silver Raffle Prize winner),
Nathan
,
Carlo
,
Tommy
,
Wyhan
, and
Sam
.
Tabletop Wars
handed 3 appreciation gifts to
Mark Humphries
, and asked him to do the honor of drawing the raffle names. The winners are:

Unspeakable Words
Aerol
was able to demo the
L5R
CCG, although he concentrated on testing his game protoypes.
Formula V
wasn't able to start early and only got started after the
OGM
had "closed". With 9 drivers, this one lap took around 3 hours. It should've been 10, but
Thomas T.
was fighting Cylons.
Daniel
was able to bring a smaller sized board of his AEROBIZ prototype, and it was lovely to look at.
Just when I was thought the tables in
Vibal
could handle any game,
Titus
and
Earl
bring in games that push the limits.
Titus
' game required a side table - there was a small 4-player table available. Table shortage was definitely not a problem, since
Jay
was more than willing to bring in more tables. At the start of the day, we had 10 tables in the Function Room, with 2 outside. One table was set aside for the Cantina. When
Vibal
's canteen closed, 2 more tables were brought in. Near the end of the day, one of the tables outside was brought in as well.
Aerol
was able to reserve a table to represent
CCG
s with
Legend of the Five Rings
- although he used half of it for his games,
Rolf
reserved a table for
Miniature Wargame
with
Heroscape
- but played
Cookie Fu
on the free areas of the table,
Daniel
reserved a table for
Boardgames
with [/i]Aerobiz[/i]. All the other tables were "open" and games played rotated frequently.
With the
OGM
formally closing at around 10pm,
Jay
kept the venue open, and it was decided to keep the Cantina open as well to service the people who were still there playing. When the Cantina was closing, it was a bit hectic again due to some of the
OGM
Organizers
hitching a ride with other participants, but overall it wasn't as rushed and time-limited as before. Thanks again to all those that helped
Nabs
close up the Cantina.
I'd like to thank those that took the time to teach others how to play games they love. Since I'm tracking for the
GURU MERIT BADGE
now, this is now in table format as well - rows that have a blank in the NAME column means it was taught by the same person listed in the entry before it. If there are any inconsistencies, do not hesitate to reply to this thread and inform me so I can update it with the correct information - I wont be crediting the people that taught games past the formal closing of the
OGM
, since technically I was no longer "on duty".

People who will receive IDs on the next month's

are:
Daniel Lee
,

,

, and

.
I would like to
THANK
Jay Mata
for having helped the
OGM
by stepping up and offering a viable venue just as we were looking for a new place. If it wasn't for your timely offer to reserve the Function Room at
Vibal
, I seriously think that the
OGM
would've have had no choice but to go to
Walter Mart
and charge 150 pesos as an entrance fee.
'til next month,
Your
OGM Host/Coordinator
,
VJ

A couple of corrections: I think it's Blokus, not Blockus, and between the OGM Organizers and TW, we actually gave Mark 3 thank-you gifts: a custom T-shirt (sourced from Joe), a personalized glass ashtray etched with the OGM logo (sourced from Nabs and Vlad), and a sealed copy of The Great Khan Game that we were able to scrounge up.
Thanks for the session report as usual

Thanks for the excellent report Vic!
Yes, Rolf is correct. There were three gifts given to Mark H:
[1] Ashtray
[2] The Great Khan Game
[3] T-shirt
Dungeon Twister
was really taught by
Adrian Manahan
and I just assisted him as he was playing Conquest of the Empire.
I invited
Arvin Ello
. His mom and my mom are friends and I know him from high school. Thanks to Rolf for allowing Arvin to hitch a ride home with them.
Correction: Joe Ferguson also won 2 Mage Knight Boosters donated by CP.

I wish I had gotten to try Aerol's homebrew games, particularly Seven. Maybe next time...

Hello.. Patricia here... I just want to make a slight correction. I'm Gaebril's wife.
I enjoyed the OGM! Too bad we had to leave early. I'll clear out the schedule for next month so we can stay longer and play more games. Thanks for the warm welcome.

The ashtray is from the OGM Organizers. But the shirt and game were from OGM Organizers and TW.
So I guess it's safe to say items were from friends in the OGM and TW.

Seven and Wu Xia will come back in less-broken form next OGM, along with Betcha Don't Know.
My only problem is to corral players into them.
