I wanted to thank all who gave Cookie Fu a try at April's OGM.  Unfortunately, we didn't really get to create characters.  That was my fault, as I didn't pre-generate any.

It was fun, to be sure, but with the special moves that characters can get when creating them would boost the game play and make it more challenging.  There is also a Dojo mat that can use miniatures and special rules regarding the mat.  I'll bring them next time to test (provided I can find players who want to try it out Smiley ).

Anyhoo, here's what Brian had to say on his Cookie Fu forum:

Greetings Fu Fighter Zhen -

The release date for DBDS isn't really set in stone. I've put out the Dynasty Edition and I would like that to build momentum for a bit before I release it. It could use a bit of play test as I'd like to make sure the rules "jive" with the regular Fu. It's done (as far as rules are concerned) and it's about 90% finished with layout. I've also gotten final icon art for the next set "Sweet & Sour Sorcery" and have begun wrapping up the rules for SSS as well. Then it's off to Mu Shu Gun Fu...

He also said this:

When I get closer to releasing the rpg, the Dojo Mats with be more important. You'll be able to place them side by side and form sort of a "path" for which the action takes place. I started with the Dojo, but there will be other "iconic" fight locations: Bamboo Forest, Market Scene, Temple Courtyard, etc.

I'm anxious to give these a shot and look forward to the RPG.  Believe it or not, this game has gotten some fairly decent reviews.  The next time I play CF, I'd like to do a session report, at least to generate some interest in it.

Cheers,
Zhen

The important thing is - who do we give money to to get some starters locally?  Grin Went over to Blue Kabuto and loved what I read about the game and I wanna try it out.

there are 3 ways to get the dice.  You can go to rpgnow and order the pdf file with dice to construct, or you can order from Blue Kabuto directly, or I can get you dice. Smiley  I just ordered over 100 dice.  I'll be glad to get you some.  It won't come in a starter box, but I can get you the dice and the rules. The price will be the price of dice listed on Cookie Fu website plus the shipping. Smiley

Cheers,
Zhen (Joe)

Put me in for some dice action. ^_^ I'll probably pick the pdf at drive thru - 5 dollars is cheap at what looks like a pretty fun fast game. How do you order from Blue Kabuto if I want some more?

I've bought the rpgnow version, but haven't constructed the dice yet.  To order the actual dice, just go to www.cookiefu.com, then send him an email that you are interested in buying some dice.  My thought is this, if enough people are interested, we can just put everyone's order as one big order and save a bit on shipping.  Smiley

You guys interested in a cookie fu league?  I'm working on the rules and whether to use the dojo mat rules. Smiley

Zhen

If you guys are still interested, I've created some Tourney rules for a test run. You can read them here:

Tell me what you think. This is a first draft and no where near set in stone.

Hmmm... wouldn't it be more organized if there were actual rounds? Sorry, but my CCG experience is showing through, hehehe.

Maybe a round robin tournament with 20 minute rounds. Victor is the one with most points at the end of the round robin. Yeah, eight players is gonna be near three hours - and I can't even imagine 15 or more players duking it out.

Hi aerolb, thanks for the input!

My only fear is that three matches can be done in about 4-5 minutes. therefore, a traditional tournament would be very short.  because the game is so quick, i thought it would be interesting to have a game going on under all the other games.

I'll have to get people together to try a traditional tourney to see how long it would take. Ha ha!  Not discounting that idea, just wanted to try something different.

Cheers,
Zhen

Wow, if it just takes five minutes then ten minute rounds are doable. A round-robin would definitely be the way to go then since then everyone can face everyone. With an occasional break that would be just under two hours.

But then since you mentioned other games going on, your initial idea would be great.  Grin I'm just used to a formal tourney environment.
