I'm surprised that no one has commented on this game by Uwe Rosenberg (creator of Agricola).  Any knowledge?

We tried playing this last Friday and we got confused by the building versus buying rules. Apparently, you own what you build. We all thought that the town owned what you built until you bought it. We didn't even get to build ships because no one wanted to build the wharf.  Cheesy

We're trying again this Friday night. It has to be cooperative play at the start when building I guess, or else you'll never get through the pile of buildings.

I got the Australian edition by the way, off ebay.

Hi there Tala! I've been wanting to try this game for some time but I thought nobody had it here yet. If you're up for 2 straight days of Le Havre, maybe you could bring it to the OGM and we could have a go at it.  Tongue Sorry no input on the rules yet, I'll read up today.  Grin

Played it w/ a couple of the core Wednesday night young-pro gamers that frequents www.jollythinkers.com @Hong Kong.

I might b able to answer most (if not all) of ur questions in person.  That'll b easier.

Compared to Agricola, I like Le Havre's card mechanics better.
U have a bit more freedom in "choosing" d building cards compared to trying to make do with the random Improvements & Profession cards that ur handed wen u start Agricola.

I found that u get a good edge if ur able to acquire useful bldgs in ur town (or tableau) early.  Quite similar to playing early profession & improvement cards in Agricola.

U probably alredy noticed that Le Havre takes much longer to finish compared to Agricola; so I was told to play it at max 4 players.
Do 5 players when every1 have enough xperience w/ d game.

Hope that helps.

We played this again last Friday, but it was just the shortened round for 4 players. Having a ship in the early rounds helped a lot in freeing up some actions for getting non-food related resources that were used later on in building food-producing buildings. And buildings with higher VPs. Cheesy Like you, ChineezPnoy, I also like the card mechanics better than Agricola. I've played Agricola with a really bad hand of Professions and Improvements.

You really have to keep track of the rounds - rounds with and without harvest - and make smart choices during the rounds when you have only 1 action.

A lot of blockage went into food production. Most were relying on producing meat from the cows, so when one player was already on that building, you'd better have a plan B - fish, or bread, or well, money.

I'd love to keep playing this to improve my resource management in this game. And maybe try the normal, not shortened version of play.

With experience, I think it can be...
4 hours with 5 players
3 hours with 4 players
2.5 hours with 3 players

But it's much deeper than Agricola.  Less random too.

Is having Le Havre like replacing Agricola? They are both worker placement/action allocation with resource management and hand management. I should try this. Is Gerard the only one with a copy so far?

I would say not.  I plan to get my own copy of Le Havre too, and still keep my Agricola.  Agricola is a lighter worker placement game, with emphasis on card combinations.  Le Havre is also worker placement, but is less forgiving when it comes to resource/food management, and is about action combinations.  Also, Agricola replayability is much much more higher (due to the number of cards) compared to Le Havre.

Join one of the upcoming meets, and we can make sure to bring the game so you could play it! Smiley

I decided to post here since the topic is starting to invade the Summoner Wars thread.

I've only played Le Havre once so far, but I want to try it again. Especially since the formula/s from Jay and Adrian aren't supportive of my final score of 129, despite winning the four player game. Tongue

And Dyeyk2000, if you like this more than Agricola, I can try teaching you Puerto Rico during one of the game nights of The Fort Gang/Fortress of Frienditude Association. Or maybe I can call us the Bonifacio Gaming Group para BGG (feeling board game geek)! Roll Eyes
