No, as the poster said "5p feels more balanced, more strategically open. Also we finished a full game in just 2 hours."

It was the opposite of AP, as even the Le Havre rule book states that the average duration of a game would be 210 minutes for 5 players (unless it was the short version). At 120 Minutes thats 24 minutes per player which is slightly over a minute per round. That's speed! (jungle speed!) Who knew that with the right group, Le Havre becomes akin to a dexterity game.

I'll bring it one of these days. But it needs to be the main event since it takes a while to play. Haha.

Actually, I think we could have gone even faster! Personally I wouldn't take a minute to consider a single action if I have been paying attention to the board and planning ahead. Like, I picked up all that wood and clay for a reason, amirite.

Oh and, I think it helps a lot to have the banking done by an out-of-turn player, and have the re-fill tokens ready and set aside ahead of turn.

Are we talking about boats vs fish? Here's another way to look at it:

In a 3-player game, a wooden ship gives you 3 food per round. Over the course of 15 rounds, you get 45 food out of it. I would quite often be willing to sell 28 francs worth of buildings to get that 45 food plus the shipping utility.

In a 5-player game, a wooden ship gives you 1 food per round. Of course there are a couple more rounds in a 5 player game. Let's say you have 18 rounds - even then you only get 18 food out of your wooden ship. Still a good buy if you had 14 francs in cash, but now I'd think twice about selling 28 francs of buildings just to buy it.

Good job! Like the Hagakure says take major matters lightly and lesser ones seriously. Planning ahead on other players' turns is really a time saver, if only all groups could be as disciplined and savvy.

This is the real Le Havre on Steroids Adrian! Literally! That could make a great review on BGG: Le Havre: the frenzy.
