Hi everyone!

The Philippine Go Association (PGA) would like to invite everyone interested in Go to participate in the 2010 National Go Championship.

Sunday, January 31, 2010, 1-6pm
William Valdez Room, 2nd floor
Ang Bahay ng Alumni, UP Diliman

Tournament Details:
5 rounds of Swiss system
Even games, nigiri, 6.5 komi, 30 minutes absolute time per player
Tournament clocks will be used for all games
Tie break: WINS > SOS > SOSOS

Winner will get a trophy, a Go book, and will represent the Philippines in the World Amateur Go Championship (WAGC) in China this May.

There's no registration fee for the tournament. We require participants to be members of PGA. For non-members, we'll have the membership forms ready at the event (no membership fee). Also, since this doubles as a selection tournament for WAGC, we require participants to be Filipino. Note that we only require the Filipino nationality for these types of tournament (selecting Philippine representatives for international events), and our other tournaments are open to everyone.

Hope to see you there!

I wish I could Sad but I already have commitments for tomorrow, and I live too far away (Las Pinas) to be able to make it back in enough time.  But if someone can post a session report, or maybe even notify us before the next one, we can post it on this site's front page news Smiley

The tournament was a success! Participants came early, we had more than enough Go equipment, and the venue and schedule fit the event nicely. 16 Go players participated in the Swiss tournament format, so we had 4 rounds.

We also had several guests: Mr. Noh, one of our Go teachers was the event's head referee, some Go players who observed instead of participated, and friends who gave their support to the players and helped in organizing the event as well.

The top 3 in the results are:

1st - Michael Galero
2nd - Cherisse Aguilon
3rd - Alvin Filio

Jerry Talon was awarded a 19x19 Go board, for being the highest ranked player who didn't have his own Go board (he was 4th).

The full table of results are here:

Here are some great photos taken by Arland Mariano:

We also have really good photos in our Facebook event page (photos taken by Kristine Chan):

Thanks viscoos! We'll try to organize about 3 big events a year. And we have several smaller meet-ups every month.

Rolf, thanks for posting us in the featured news Smiley

You're welcome Smiley And here's a tip - you can use the site calendar to mark your events, and link them to a post or thread where you can then give the details (location, time, etc).

Happy gaming!
