Acitvely introducing board gaming to people - The UP Diliman meet.

Greetings!

During the Jan OGM, I met several new people from UP Diliman who were interested in the board gaming hobby.

Their exposure is very limited to the OGM and the little game collections that some of them have. To address these, I am setting up a meet with the students and alumni of UP in the hopes that this will expand the hobby and the number of board gamers here in the Philippines.

I would like to thank Mark and CP for their interest in what I am planning. I, and I'm sure the UP people, would appreciate any help in setting this up and even simple suggestions will surely make this endeavor a success.

I will be sending out emails tomorrow to inquire with UPpeeps their availability and other details. If there's anything you would like to know as well, please let me know so I could include it in the email.

Someone who's actually familiar with the place. Is there a good venue there you can recommend and can visitors like us just go there to play?

Maybe you can even get your professor friends to join us or include us in their class. For example:
If they teach economics or management, we could get the class to play "Containers" of something.
If they're in Vanguard, maybe we can get them to try strategic historical wargames or the lighter tactical Heroscape,
etc..

If the people are in dorms, you can try using their respective dining halls.  Some dorms like Kalayaan and Yakal have recreation areas but you can't be too noisy in them.

The best time to play would be Tuesday nights or Wednesdays since most students have minimal classes on a Wednesday.

@Earl: They're in engineering - so maybe Power Grid? Haha.

I suggest that you ask your recruits if they're part of an org - usually that would be a good way to get a venue. Failing that, I also recall that there used to be a lot of magic players near the AS walk, I guess that's a good place to try.

@catch: They changed Wednesdays to Mondays recently - classes are now TTh and WF.

EDIT: Weren't there a lot of Warhammer/Warmachine players in UP Fine Arts? I seem to recall people spraypainting models in the CFA workshop barn.

I sugesst that we start w/ gateway games and then we can go to the heavier stuff later.

Some of them are part of the UP Hobby Gamers Circle or UP-HGC. Thanks for the suggestions. I sent them the email already and am waiting for their reply.

Engineering huh? Maybe they'll like the very mathematical games of Reiner Knizia who has a Phd in Mathemathics.

If anyone would have a better shoe-in to the meet I'm trying to set up but don't have the time to devote to setting it up, please let me know and I'll do my best to help.

And yes, I'm from the College of Engineering, there is a lobby in the 4th floor wherein there are lots of tables which can be used for playing.  That is, if no one is using them.  As for our org tambayan, I still have to ask our current president.
