Greetings!

The Philippine Historical Boardgamers Club (Philboardgamers) will have its next official Wargame Mini-Con (formerly the Wargame Meet) on March 20, 2010. The WGM will be open from 10am to 10pm.

The Wargame Mini-Con is a gathering of wargamers and history buffs from all over the Philippines. It is open to everyone sharing these interests, from the most hardened veterans and professional academics, to first-time wargamers and to people who just like reading history books.

It aims to provide a friendly, comfortable, and easily accessible setting for the following activities:

• Playing classic wargames – the Philboardgamers crew owns an extensive collection of wargames, the largest collection in the Philippines. People who go to the WGM can expect to play an enormous variety of games – ranging from timeless classics such as Panzerblitz and Squad Leader, to recent hits such as Here I Stand, Fire in the Sky, and A Victory Lost.

• Discussing military history, along with strategy, tactics, and combat doctrine. The Philboardgamers crew includes several professional teachers and historians well-versed in this subject, as well as many well-read amateurs with extensive history book collections. Whether you’re interested in the tactics of the Roman Legions, the campaigns of Napoleon, the great battles of World War 2, or even comparing the merits of various modern Main Battle Tanks (i.e. Leopard 2 vs Merkava 4), the WGM is a great opportunity to meet and talk to people who are fascinated by the Art of War.

• Trading/Buying games and books. The Wargame Mini-Con is a good venue for finding books and games that you’d like to add to your collection, or for finding a new home for an old game that you’re about to let go.

The venue is a function room at Residencia 8888, Ortigas Center. It is close to the University of the Asia & the Pacific. It is located centrally in the heart of Metro Manila. It is easily accessible via mass transit, and ample parking space is available in the area. Please e-mail Thomas Ting (the Club President) at zinegata@yahoo.com or call/text him via the number 0929-10-100-19 if you require more details.

The theme for this month’s Wargame Mini-Con is still being decided. Please feel free to suggest a theme.

If you’d like to propose or bring other games, please also e-mail Thomas Ting (contact details above). This will allow the organizers to contact the owners of the games and to prepare the matches.

A minimal entrance fee of P100 will be charged to cover for the rent of the venue. Additional donations to help cover the cost of the venue are also welcome.

We hope to see everyone at the next Wargame Mini-Con!

Count me in!   Smiley

I'd like to propose that we play "Here I Stand" for this Wargame Meet.  I can bring my copy.  If people would like to play it, please sign up below:

1.  English - Adrian (the other one)
2.  French - Jay
3.  Hapsburgs - Adrian (classic)
4.  Ottomans - Thomas
5.  Protestants - Gerald
6.  Papacy -

Just two requests:
* Can we start a bit early? Like 12nn?  I have an affair to go to in the evening, and I'll have to leave by 630pm/7pm.
* Can we NOT give Hapsburgs to di? It's hard to play a 6-hour exercise in futility.   Cheesy

I maintain that even if we give Di Venice, he will still kill us all.

No naman.  Di needs both Venice and Genoa.
With Venice, we still stand a chance.  Cheesy

So Tom, are you in? Shall we see another Papal invasion of Central Asia (Asia Minor)?  Wink

I'll consult with Pacqui and crew. But I'd like to go for my "natural" faction - the Ottomans.

Di should take the Papacy, and Adrian should take the Hapsburgs!  Cheesy  That should give all of us a chance.

We'll wait for their word. Smiley
Or if someone else wants to sign up before they do...

Only the Papacy is left! Adrian A. has signed up as the Hapsburgs!
It is the young sith apprentice against the slightly older sith lord!

I'm in, as long as you address me respectfully as "Papa" or "Your Holiness" as your armies crush my pathetic, leaderless armies into the mud Wink

Ugh. Bad news.

I have to back out as well -- I've just been told I have to manage a leadership and community building training program for ex-Communists on Mar 20.

I can leave my copy in Adrian (the younger's) capable hands before the event, and you can still run the game. Smiley

So the English and the Protestants are back up for grabs.
