Background:
Having grown up in a family where the majority of the male adults were in the military, Blackjack was constantly ordered about: "stand tall, don't speak unless spoken to, the floor isn't clean enough do it again" and so on.  He began to hate authority and the restrictions it placed on his life.  While his friends were out playing, he had to stay in and do the numerous chores his father gave him.

His mother, always a quiet woman, obeyed his father and pleaded with him to do the same.  However, Blackjack saw the light in her eyes slowly die through out the years until she was no more than a servant, never asking questions, always keeping her thoughts to herself. Blackjack realized that this would happen to him.  At the age of 14, he decided to run away from home.  He hasn't seen his parents since.

He took the first job that came his way, which was a small ring of snatchers that made their rounds at market.  Stealing fruits, vegetables, shoes, clothing and anything that could be useful to keep or sold for profit.  When he was 15, he moved to the city of Specularum -- fell into the more family/friendly guild known as the Kingdom of Thieves -- and has been silently theiving since, but has become a pickpocket and burglar.

He never longs for his family, but often wishes he had taken his mother.  However, he knows that this is the life that she could never survive or would want to live with.

Most recently, after a minor turf war with the other Thieves' Guilds (The more violent Veiled Society, and the even more violent and despicable slavery-oriented organization known as the Iron Ring), he decided to find out about the Iron Ring's ties to the West and has followed them to Luln. Posing as a scout, he is making friends, cementing alliances, and determining just how dangerous a venture to the Black Eagle Barony would be.
