Spartacus: Blood and Sand

Betrayed by the Romans. Forced into slavery. Reborn as a Gladiator. The classic tale of the Republic’s most infamous rebel comes alive in the graphic and visceral new series, "Spartacus: Blood and Sand." Torn from his homeland and the woman he loves, Spartacus is condemned to the brutal world of the arena where blood and death are primetime entertainment. But not all battles are fought upon the sands. Treachery, corruption, and the allure of sensual pleasures will constantly test Spartacus. To survive, he must become more than a man. More than a gladiator. He must become a legend.

---

Done watching the whole 1st seaon (13 episodes) just last night. The show is a historical portrayal of ancient Roman society and the intensity of the content is to suggest an authentic representation of that period. Spartacus depicts extreme sensuality, brutality, and language that viewers may find objectionable. But with all of these, it comes with an excellent story, great acting, and lots of eye-candy. WARNING: NOT FOR KIDDIES.

The primal aspect can turn off some people.  But the show gets better as the episodes progresses.  Grin  I feel there is something familiar with the camera angles and I'm not sure if Sam Raimi, being one of the producers, has something to do with it.  But the show is highly polished and a must watch for fans of "300" and "Gladiator" (pero steroid-driven nga lang).  I think Clive Barker fans may also like this show.

My father loves ancient Roman history and loves the Rome series. He just got bored with Spartacus, too much talkie, not enough fighty, too many exposed "sausages". I agree with him Smiley

hahahaha Grin  There are actually a lot more exposed breasts than sausages but I guess they are aiming to catch the attention of viewers by subjecting them to various graphical images from nudity to extreme violence.  To date, this is the most brutal TV show I've ever seen that has a nice story.  Would definitely watch the second season.  I just hope the main star, Andy Whitfield, would be cured of his real-life disease: Non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

I must say the scenes of sausage should have been cut ha ha ha or just torso shots na lang. In any case, this is relatively amusing so I'm watching it while waiting for my Dr. Who to download.  Grin

I really like this series. Admitted that it is no "Rome" but the story gets quite interesting in the second half of the season.

I like the fact that there's no "bad guy" per se but they're all just trying to get ahead.

Watch it, just ignore the sausages. All guys have them anyway so it's no big deal.

Yeah. Having watched up to Episode 11, I have to say the plot and characters is above average, though the historical accuracy of some things depicted is questionable. I would say its almost like watching the game on the PS2- "Shadow of Rome" which had really really good gladiatorial combat and really really atrocious stealth missions.

I read about that.  Terrible shame - he was so young and could have done so much more if he had the chance.
