« on: May 15, 2010, 03:57:22 PM »

Late 2009 and early 2010, we've noticed that most major local hobby shops started carrying more tabletop games.  Several pubic/private gaming groups were formed and a few small-medium businesses took the chance to see what opportunity they can enter into regarding the industry.

It has been a couple of months since I stopped accepting orders and became less active in the site.  This is partly because I've been busy due to work and personal stuff.  But it has also something to do with the local gaming scene.  I felt there were just too many things happening and changing that I became too stressed out.  Playing games became a chore for me.  So I decided to stop to take a breather.

As time passed by, I realized my love for the hobby continued to dwindle without enough time to dedicate on it.  I played games whenever I have the chance but I felt it's not the same without the "business aspect".  Meaning, I enjoy accepting orders of games from people as much as I do playing games and maintaining this website.  For me, it's a complete package.  I enjoy giving equal attention to each aspect of the hobby but not too much that it will eat up my whole life.

On my break, I learned that I like to play games more with my family and close friends rather then playing for the public.  It relieves stress better, it's more relaxing, and felt I enjoyed the activity more.  But of course, there are just times that you need to also go out and look for players who share similar games that you are interested in.  There are just too many varied genre and excellent games to play!

Right now, I decided to again accept orders and be a little more active in this website.  For now, I won't be playing publicly too often nor join any events but I will just enjoy the hobby for what it is and at my own pace.

I've allowed site members and even actual companies to sell stuff and earn from TW without asking anything in return because I want to make the site as "free" and as "neutral" as possible since I believe it will contribute to faster growth.  But running this website has costs and coupled with ones love for the hobby, it is quite difficult to afford both.  I asked myself, if I continue this way how can I sustain growth, if ever there truly was?  Well, a simple answer would be to earn a little from it if possible.  So I've made some modifications in the website to give more exposure to my part of the business (accepting orders).

I hope my decision to go ahead with the site modifications is fair for everyone.  Please support TabletopWars.com and order a few games from me sometimes.  Thanks for reading! Smiley

Very well said!

From a business standpoint, it is only logical that you take into consideration these things. This site has been very instrumental in promoting and spreading the love for tabletop games here in the Philippines. However, we also know that maintaining the site is costly (in all aspects) and you do need to be compensated for the time, effort and money that you put into this.

You are one of those that have proven reliable and very easy to do business with, and you can definitely count on me to still order stuff from you in the future.

By the way, I do have a business proposition in mind for you for a limited engagement in the latter part of the year. I'll just iron out the details on my end and I'll contact you soon.

Good luck!

Hey buddy, thanks for your continued support to TW.  You've been really a great help all these years.  With all that we went through, until now I'm sad that I can't reward you for all your efforts. Maybe this change will allow me to see to it soon. Smiley

Hi Alger!  Thanks for keeping in touch all this time.  Smiley

In the Philippines, there's no other related way to sustain growth for this kind of site.  Banner ads and sponsorship sucks.  I've tried for years to think about anything else other than accepting orders as I don't want to be biased. But I've put enough investments already and all I see is growing cost. It's either I just keep still and let the site die slowly while being eaten by parasites, kill the site now to avoid additional expenses, or do something to resuscitate it. hahahaha  Cheesy  I think the latter option is the best.  I am hoping that I can at least earn something to pay for the maintenance cost and if lucky maybe get to even set aside some fund for future investment to make the site better.  Grin

@brel - how much exactly do you get from the banner ads? I have actually clicked on a number of the interesting ones myself, though I wasn't really doing so with the idea of it translating into any real money for the site. do they?

Honestly, I haven't received any income from the banner ads since the site went up.  Sad

Don't worry about it.  I did it because I love the hobby and I want to see the community grow.  It's enough reward for me that I met such wonderful people and got to be a part of such an intelligent community - and of course, that I got to play board games with people who enjoy them too.
