The best Diablo-clone: Torchlight

I'm currently enjoying this little gem while awaiting Diablo's return.  Grin

Been playing this game for quite some time now. You should take a look at installing some of the available mods as it will make your game experience better. Too bad it's just single player (at least until they release their MMO version).

I haven't tried the mods yet.  Will check it out pare as soon as I finish the game. Smiley  I didn't know they are having an MMO. Shocked  I like the "portability" of Torchlight.  It is simple, quick, and can even run in a measely powered netbook!  Grin

You don't have to finish the game to install the mods. Some of them work fine even if you're in the middle of the game. Just make sure to have a backup of your last save just in case  Wink

Although there are a lot of mods, with some giving you god-like abilities, my favorite ones are those that do not really mess with the gameplay and only tweak some things such as add more inventories in town, stackability of some potions, etc.

You can find the mods here:

Is that the vendor dupe bug? If it is, I don't have it anymore ever since I patched mine  Grin

Yes, that's the one.  After using an Identify Scroll to duplicate an Ember for 4 times, I go to the other vendor who combines them into one Ember which is upgraded to the next level.  I then duplicate the upgraded Ember to 4 times and transmuted them again to the next Ember level.  I do this until I reach the highest level for a particular Ember type.  Grin  Feels like I'm a kid again discovering new tricks in my Family Computer.  hahaha

I also tried torchlight, it really fascinated me for a bit, but not for long as after playing both Diablo I & II it kinda got old, but two thumbs up for fun that I got with the transmutation and the pet, I swear most of my time spent in Diablo was going back because I didn't have enough room to carry the stuff I found.  Grin

i think its touted as a Diablo filler, just to bring our thoughts back to how much fun hack-and-slash Diablo-style was. I dunno if its a new marketing strat to build up hype for Diablo 3, though with the title a good several years away it may be too soon.

I wouldn't really call it a Diablo clone. That implies it was copied. Majority of Torchlight's designers were former Blizzard employees who worked on- you guessed it- Diablo. I'd call it a spiritual successor.

Clone is such an inappropriate word.  Some lawyer friends might call it copyright infringement.  Cheesy

This looks interesting. Is the Character skill tree development deep? How hard are the bosses? Ar there sub-bosses?

It's interesting but it gets really old really fast, especially when the Diablo nostalgia wears off.  Skill tree development is as good as Diablo 2.  Bosses are easy on ranged but I'm expecting that to change in the deeper levels.  Unfortunately, I'm not going to see them because I rarely play this game at present, unlike before.

Sub-bosses are not so difficult, provided you have a good character build.

Played this one too. This can be a great game if you can only modify the looks of your avatar. (well I never seen one when playing single player games though). I think the developer of this game is also the one who created the game Fate.  Smiley
