Chapter 04: Against the Kobolds

[amosias]

Everyone in your party is on the ground, except for Blackjack (who is climbing the wall just below where the upside down kobolds are coming out) and Hagar (who is standing on the ceiling).

Hagar readies his drawn weapon and says, "Come and get me you little curs!"

Approximately 10 kobolds all run out of a concealed opening in the upper cave wall -- seemingly unaware of Blackjack's presence -- and head straight for Hagar.

"Master Presto" emerges from one of the nearby tunnels just in time to witness this little army running across the ceiling toward Hagar.

On instinct, Eren sheaths his sword and readies his bow and quiver. From where he is at, he tries to determine if the Kobolds are in any way disfigured or mutated like the Stirges.

[OOC: Is Eren familiar with special ways to deal with Kobolds?]

[Rolf]

"A FRAY!!"  Boris shouts joyfully. "And I have been so homesick for one!!!" 

His glee is quickly stifled by the realization that with Blackjack on the rope, there is no quick way for him to ascend to where the action is.  Holding back a sigh, he quickly drops his sword and shield and draws his bow.

"Hagar!  Back up so we can get a few more shots in!" 

[OOC: I'm assuming from the image that they are armed with spears only, and not bows or ranged weapons of any sort...is that correct?]

Boris's keen eye scans the kobold forces -- all appear to be brandishing short spears only as they make their way to Hagar.

[ooc: roll initiative, everyone! 1d6!]

[OOC: Bah, I rolled an initiative of 1 for the kobolds.]

Presto drops his sling and stones and begins casting sleep to the tightly formed group of kobolds.  "If it worked on an ogre, it should work on a group of kobolds", he thinks.

ooc: initiative 6

[ysigne]

Gregor readies his sling, even though he's not sure if the ceiling is close enough or how the strange forces in the room would affect his shot. With grim eyes, he glances at Presto. If his spell doesn't work, we'll have to decide if we should rush up... or just try our best and pick them off from here.

His eyes move to Hagar, and grow even grimmer.

OOC init. 2 How far "down" are the kobolds from where I'm hanging?  matter of Fact, how far "down" is the floor/ceiling in which they are running and Hagar is?

Blackjack watches the Kobolds as they run past, keeping as still and quiet as possible.  He knows Hagar is going to be in trouble soon, and is preparing himself as he is thinking about climbing down after the beasties have gone past, and strike them from behind.

[ooc: Blackjack is approximately 10 feet from the ceiling that the kobolds are running on.

Their only action at this point is to run to Hagar.]

Blackjack waits silently as the Kobolds run past.  When they get to a distance that's far enough, he will climb down and attack them with his short sword from behind.

OOC-Trying to sneak up behind them and get in a bonus short or two.

Presto looses his sleep spell upon the band of kobolds with a gesture and a barked arcane formula. Despite Blackjack's proximity and his own, he is confident as he knows they are lesser creatures than they and must all fall asleep before they are affected...

[OOC: Based on dice rolls -- 8 are affected for a 7 turns]

Eight of the party of 10 collapse on the ceiling, asleep in a messy heap. Two continue to charge Hagar, bellowing at the top of their scrawny little lungs...

[ooc: next up are Eren, then Boris, then Gregor. Declarations and attack rolls please!]

OOC: Arrows at the remaining two kobolds.  Maybe now I'll get my first kill in this adventure

Brimming with a smile that may lop his own head off if the ends of his lips would meet, Presto gestures to the rest of the grounded party to help themselves to any of the sleeping targets at the ceiling.  At this point he retrieves his sling and stones and sits at the floor and let his compatriots as it were, have at it.

"Onwards, fellows! Make with the bashing and smashing and whatnot.  I've got your behinds!"
