In a fantasy world dominated by goblins, when the bloodmoon rises in the sky, a new war starts, some new warlords appear and raise their armies.

GOSU is a hybrid game between Race for the Galaxy and Magic: The Gathering, each player raises an army of goblins, they can be soldiers, heroes, magicians and lot of news class.

At each turn a player can play a new goblin, activate a goblin, draw cards or pass. When each player passes, the player with the greatest force wins a battle. When a player wins 3 battles, he wins.

The game is 100 cards for 2 to 4 players. Game is 30 to 45 mn.

how is it similar to Race? Shared deck and shared-phase selections? At least its not another Dominion clone (though, I'm still wanting Tanto Cuore Cool)

In a nutshell, the game involves drawing goblins from a shared deck and then taking actions to draw cards and or put them into play. There are several factions and then their goblins are split into Level I, II, and III. Goblin summoning requires that you have lower level goblins in play before you can bring higher ones in.

Activation Tokens are the primary resource in this game. You only get two and each turn they allow you to:

(a) Spend an Activation Token to draw a card from the draw pile;
(b) Spend two Activation Tokens to draw three cards from the draw pile; and (c) Play an Activation Token on a goblin to activate its power.

The other resource is Cards. Discarding cards is used for certain actions and in mutating Goblins.

Each round ends in a GREAT BATTLE which is simply adding the military strength of the cards in play and comparing values. Winning gives you a VP. When you have three, you win.

There is "goblin combat" in the sense that some cards allow you to destroy other cards. But the great battle is just a who has more strength check.

Its not similar to Race as the action you choose only affects you. Though you might activate screwage powers.

This should help you evaluate if you want this game.

Read the rules. This looks interesting. Simple rules but the 7 hand limit (unless you play card draw effects) is intriguing. Mmmm..

The game looks interesting, but I still prefer the more "visible" combat of Warhammer: Invasion and that old stalwart Magic.  Wink

Sharing a great find. It's an app that's supported by the GOSU publisher, Moonstar. Basically it creates a virtual playing area (table) for you to place the cards along with virtual tokens, virtual hand etc. It's really hard to describe. But imagine a bare bones playing area where you just drag pictures around. It won't resolve card effects automatically for you (ex. if a card would have destroyed another card, you have to manually click the targeted card and click "discard" -- just like real life lol).

I've obviously been dying to try the game so I'm willing to go to these lengths haha. Game impressions? Take it with a grain of salt since I only played one game (and virtual pa Tongue excited mag-post? haha)

Anyway, I like it. Grin I played a solo 1v1 game and despite starting with 7 cards each -- and note the game has no automatic "draw phase", after an hour or so, I've gone roughly through 65 cards of the 100 card deck.

I found it to be a very tactical back and forth battle. You're always thinking how can I set up my board better while putting the hurt on his, so it's definitely no solitaire. You can't play it like a red keso deck though, since the game rewards timing with card effects that are more powerful if you are behind (ala catch up mechanism of Power Grid). It was also very easy to see who was ahead at a glance, so you know when to push the tempo, play it slow, or hit the breaks. It's played in rounds, so you might not be necessarily be playing to win the current round but the ones after it instead.

I would have liked to be more immersed in the theme, but maybe once I have physical cards in hand, it will be different. Seeing that I was able to burn through the deck easy, this is a game that can certainly use an expansion or two. Tactical games like these are always more rewarding with variety. Just like Small World wherein the game becomes richer with new races and abilities, but you don't necessarily have to reinvent the wheel.

Looking forward to playing a physical copy, along with the expansion in March! Haha. Claro let me know when you have your copy na!  Grin

Now I'm really jelly. We've got a gh gaming group if you wanna drop by. I'll be wreaking one this Tuesday after dinner. Text me at 0917 5320262 if you wanna drop by. Alger sexy bro and dyeyk2000 are a few of those in the site who join me.

I hear this game is more of a 2 player than 3 or 4.
