Hey Guys,
Ive got a question for our veteran war gamers, it’s a board game I used to play when i was a kid but forgot I the name and im kinda too lazy to browse each military game every created. ^_^

Heres the details; its has a very large board to set up if I remember correctly it was joined together by 2 massive folded board. Then going around the sides it has something like tiles were your token would go around after rolling a dice, just like in monopoly, but here you roll the dice and the token goes around the board and when you land on a tile you either get tech cards, additional troops, additional money etc...

At the centre is the game map, where you put your troops (tanks, army, airplanes etc.) and conquer lands and attack your enemy and the most memorable piece of the game was I can use atomic/nuclear bomb to blast the hell of my opponent it usually hits before a certain amount or turns and a certain blast radius.

The info might be a hit or miss, its the best that I can remember. Hope you can help with my query.

Cheers

Rather than a wargame, this sort of reminds me of Powerplay, which had a plastic template for nuclear strikes. However, I can't find any reference to it in BGG  Shocked  so I might be remembering the name wrong.

Is the map in the middle made up of hexes? I remember Powerplay to have that and the money prints have this dog in the center. But I'm still not that sure.

Here's the board for Power Play from BGG:

Is this it? I'm not a wargamer but your description of the game made me curious.

It's a different Powerplay I think, Mark.

I have a copy of Powerplay that my mom bought for me from National Bookstore. I don't believe it's in BGG as, if I recall correctly, it's actually a local design.

The Powerplay I have can support up to 4 players, and is kind of a hybrid between Monopoly and a wargame.

It comes with a LOT of plastic pieces, divided into these categories:

Missiles (representing defense installations)
Airplanes
Nukes (which are attached on planes)
Ships
Tanks (three of which can be carried on a ship)
Houses (to represent capital cities)

Ahhh so it was Philippine made, that would explain the game not being in BGG. Hmmm interesting so we have our own war game printed here.

I only see game of the generals in NBS though maybe its too long ago and out of print. who was the game designer and who printed it?

This is indeed the game i used to own & play...

The ships can carry up to 3 tanks. The houses are actually tents. The nukes are attached on top of the bomber. You capture the islands to get more money. etc etc

Wow, I never knew there was a war-themed game with minis by a Filipino publisher. Interesting.

I still have my copy so I can dig it up. I dunno if the rulebook survived though, along with the designer credits.

If I recall right though, the game was designed and published by Mabuhay Games. The same people who did boardgames like Millionaire's Game, Casino, and the like. I'm fairly certain they're still alive as I have seen new copies of Millionaire's Game in some NB branches (although maybe they're old ones that just got repacked).

The mechanics are very similar to a lot of other classic Mabuhay Games (i.e. Oil Exploration and Strike Force... and God, I realized just how big of a Philippine Boardgame Grongard I am because I own all of these games >_>). Basically, it's the... unholy union of Monpoly and an adventure/wargame.

Basically, each turn you have 3 options:

a) Roll two dice, and travel that number of spaces around the outer track. Do the action indicated on the space you land. Generally, this means that you either gain some money, or lose some money. You also gain a lump sum if you pass the "Go" space (and earn more if you've purchased investments).

b) Purchase units or investments

c) Move/attack on the board. The board is divided into a very large number of hexes like a traditional wargame. There are four continents (one for each player) and three islands (for expansion/colonization) on the map.

The game is a bit weird because you only get 6 movement points to spend (divided any way you choose) among all your units. If a unit ends its turn adjacent to an enemy unit, you must engage in combat.

Combat is... depressingly simple. Airplanes and Missiles roll 4 dice. Ships roll 3. Tanks roll 2. Simply roll the number of dice your unit gets. Highest total wins. Yes, this means tanks should be called "targets" instead.

Most of the fun of the game comes with using nukes though. A nuke must always be placed in an existing fighter plane. If the plane is destroyed or whenever a player chooses to, the nuke detonates. A detonated nuke destroys everything within 2 hexes.

So... it's not really a minis game. It's more of the bastard child of Monopoly and Twilight Struggle... or at least the portion of Twilight Struggle when you hit Defcon 1 Tongue

I remember this game!  I had this when I was in grade school.  I never really played it the way it was supposed to be played... I just used the minis to wage war and blew each other to bits!  Hahahaha... fun times! Grin

Good job! Dig it up and we can turn it into a drinking game!
