Wow. That's insanely twisted. Hahaha. I thought they just bash a couple of games with their own account. But to go to the lengths of creating a new account for the purpose of bashing and pumping rankings. Sad, sad, sad...
Three thoughts come to mind from this:
1. They should really make being able to rate a privilege. Perhaps a minimum amount of geekgold needs to be spent in order to be able to rate games (and change votes, beyond the pre-set rating expiry date). To deter a bad habit, you need the right punishment/reward system, or else people will just game the system.
2. Is this organized? Or are these individuals just taking cue one after another from the actions of others without direct communication? A bit fascinating if this is herd behavior. Unless they are formally organizing/telling a bunch of people to kill and lift a game. Sad.
3. So yeah, people still believe that rankings matter in the perception of a game. Even if you hear so many people say they don't believe in the BGG rating system anymore, there will still be people who will game it. Perhaps it's personal satisfaction or just clinging at the thought that some people still believe in the rankings.

The BGG rating system is gamed so much that it's practically useless.
The 'GeekBuddy Analysis' feature is much more reliable.

Finding a reliable geek buddy is a different challenge altogether though. Any tips? Haha

Read BGG comments and reviews of games you've already played, Geekbuddy those whose opinions you respect.
