So here's a virtual boardgame that I've been playing a lot.

Spectromancer (on sale at Steam) is a turn-based online fantasy card game, co-designed by Magic: The Gathering's Richard Garfield and Alexey Stankevich, creator of Astral Tournament and Astral Masters, Spectromancer allows players to participate in a magical duel against other mages by strategically summoning creatures and casting spells.

The interface is simple - nothing fancy at all - but the gameplay is really great.

And the best part? Free, browser-playable flash demo!

Well, I have 45 hours logged on it, and each match only takes about 3 min. So yeah it's pretty good. Grin It plays similarly to Magic, except with a shared, randomized card pool instead of being collectible. It also doesn't have a "deck", and thus has zero luck after setup.

There's a pretty good campaign mode and several quick-play offline modes. Multiplayer is also quite good - it has online, LAN, and even hotseat.

EDIT: Just try the free flash demo I linked, it shouldn't be too hard to pick up the basics.
