Interesting thought I had the other day.. I realized that I don't seem to be the hardcore euro player I thought I was. The brain burning and thin theme was actually beginning to lose appeal. I found myself clamoring for quicker games, I kept looking for the occasional dragon to crash through my board game and lo and behold, "multiplayer solitaire"* actually sounded boring now.

Some things still stayed the same though. High luck was still a no no, and the more strategy in a game, the better for me. I've also come to appreciate games who have achieved the holy grail of "simplexity". And dice, oh dice.. I still fear them, but I have to give props to games who seem to have discovered inventive ways to offset its unpredictability.

So I guess I'm not quite euro, but not AT either.. maybe I'm a eurotrasher? Hahaha.

How about you guys? Have your tastes changed since you started gaming?

*yes a footnote and quotation marks, for much anguish has been poured over the definition of this concept <3

More than changing tastes, I've found myself opening up to new genres of games that I never considered before. Like you, I started with the classic euros (Princes of Florence in particular), and during that time I kept reading about the big euro/AT divide Roll Eyes But after looking up some AT games, I ended up really liking them as well Grin And from there I started looking at wargames and solitaire games, and I just ended up liking everything. But I still love my euros Tongue

I account for the change in my tastes, from primarily AT to a mix of AT and Euros, due to exposure to the gaming group I'm with, composed primarily of TTW stalwarts. As such, I now appreciate games like Agricola, Le Havre, Puerto Rico, etc, and I certainly like to play regularly. Though recently, due to playing Yomi and Puzzle-Strike, I've developed an aversion to long games in either camp and I prefer to play games under the 90 minute mark- hence my great appreciation for Endeavor and Ravenloft.

I got into gaming due to mostly two games. Dominion and Cutthroat Caverns.

As I delved deeper into the games with much gusto, I found myself looking at the games due to its theme more than anything. The games I seemed to enjoy should have theme, conflict and a hybrid of AT and Euro. I started out with card games (specifically deck-building) and moved to medium-heavy Hybrids.

I like short filler games but recently ive been yearning for longer games such as Dominant Species and Civ.

I think I found my niche in gaming. THEME, CONFLICT, HYBRID. Those are three things I look for in my board gaming

I came across a boardgame blog post that I think sums up my "tastes" in games... or at least how I behave in regards to what I want to play

So you have no particular tastes  Grin (Joke lang) But yeah, I get the feeling I've become a game taster with too many games and too little time (even considering that I can manage to game in a hardcore fashion 2-3 times a week)
