I just picked this bad boy up from Gerald and it's a weighty (both literally and game wise) son of a gun.  Just wondering if anyone out there is an RoR veteran and can help those interested in the game get familiar with it.

This is also a call out for anyone interested in Republic of Rome.

Played it once and I'd be willing to play it again. Unfortunately I don't have the time. This is one of those monster one-day games and it's a pretty big time investment to play it. I recommend reserving a Saturday for it.

The box is always optimistic. hahaha. The best time you can get is a whole afternoon - actualluy it's shorter if your just let the barbarians rampage - but then you lose. hahaha

Hmm... perhaps it took so long because you played all three eras: Early, Middle and Late Republic?  If you played only one era (usually the Early Republic era) the game should only last about 7 to 11 turns depending on number of players (more players = fewer turns).  That should fit in the 3-5 hour quote on the box

I think we did only Early Republic. What takes so long is the wheeling and dealing. It is a very negotiation based game.

That it is...that it is...

Anyway, when I'm ready I'll host a game at my house.  I would be honored and just darned tickled pink if you could join us then.

I've played it before too. Interesting game. I was essentially playing Julius Caesar - I crafted two "Operation Victory" plans, personally saved Rome once, became really wealthy, only to have my Senator stabbed dead on the Senate floor.

Always nice to be stabbed to death on good Italian marble!  Grin

I'm still waiting to get this game played.  In the meantime, if you are interested in finding about this game a little bit, here's a Scott Nicholson video about it.

Just to announce that I will be playing Republic of Rome in a forum game on Boardgamegeek.  I'll post the link where you can find updates.  Meanwhile, my first order of business to come up with a cool faction name.

I've come up with

1.  Luoma Pai - means Roman faction in Chinese
2.  Mga Pilipinong Romano - Filipino Romans, for those who are local lingo challenged.

Any other ideas welcomed.
