I've got a copy and it definitely works. There are some banned cards - specifically cards that stop you from gaining or losing 8 honor or prevent you from playing rings - but overall I believe that you can pretty much use any deck from any era in L5R - except for the Naga and the Rat - mostly because they don't have tiles- hahaha.

I dunno, the military track is great, but the rest of the WoH ruleset doesn't mesh well. I'd prefer to keep the military track (race to five province breaks) and just play classic L5R multiplayer otherwise. And anyway, L5R is much, much better as a 2-player game. I'm glad I was able to sell off my copy before Emperor came out.

The pre-built decks are quite solid though, I must admit - most cards are in triplicate and everything makes sense where they are. You don't have any cards that are looking for a card that isn't there (such as Pokupo in IG3). I imagine a lot of boardgamers would be attracted to that aspect.

The honor and dishonor tracks stop the "bombs" and "rockets" from going off and ruining everyone else's day. Plus the enlightenment track means that you don't have to worry so much about putting down all the rings in one turn.

I mostly bought it for my L5R fix - with the dawn of EE's all-constructed starters, all I need is a starter box to go with it and I say bye to buying any more L5R packs or decks forever.
