...I'm getting married! Cheesy

Which also means packing needs to be done in preparation to move, and some boxes just have a bit too much stuff. So I've decided to part with a few things...

http://lordshoju.multiply.com/photos/album/5#photo=1

Talisman Second Edition in near-mint condition, lovingly cared for and packed away for over 25 years.

http://lordshoju.multiply.com/photos/album/5#photo=5

All cards intact and uncreased, complete right down to all Life, Strength, Craft and Gold counters accounted for.

(But no I'm not giving up on Talisman, I still have a near-mint copy of Talisman 2nd ed with the City, Dungeon, Timescape, Adventure, Talisman Expansion and Talisman Dragons in a beautiful display case. This happens to be an extra set I have)

I do require that the game goes to someone who will care for it and appreciates its sentimental value as much as I have.

Do let me know if there is any interest Cheesy

Congratulations! And hold on to your other copy of Talisman, you'll be playing it with your kid sooner than you'd think.  Wink

Good job! Congratulations on the ball and chain, battle axe, better half, what-have-you!

On a related note to this unrelated news, I bought the 2nd Ed. copy that Karl was offering, and he graciously accepted my offer to purchase it. And, wonder of wonders, I finally managed to do something I have wanted to do for a long time- own a 2nd copy of the 2nd ed. As I have said in my "My Game Collection" post, my copy is pretty dinged and battered having been with me for over 20 years, and having been played to death with countless adventurers falling to the Crown of Command in the Ultimate Battle of Ultimate Destiny.

I have run down scores of foes with the Centaur; used the all powerful Ninja Secret Strike to turn foes into quivering jelly; defeated superior opponents with the Karate Master's martial skills; found the dwarf miner as the Dwarf and gone to the Crown; blasted foes to oblivion with the Finger of Death; and in turn I have met many horrible demises, not the least of which is the farmer who loves beating on drunken heroes.

Talisman has been described as that "Crazy ex-girlfriend you fool with every now and then" and in this day and age of non-random perfect information games, its the last great roll-and-go, but nevertheless
as Don Draper in the TV show Madmen said:

...a deeper bond to a product. Nostalgia. It's delicate but potent. Nostalgia literally means, 'the pain from an old wound.'"It's a twinge in your heart, far more powerful than memory alone. This device isn't a spaceship, it's a time machine. And it takes us to a place where we ache to go again.

In a sense that is what Talisman is for me, a way back machine, a step through the looking glass, a means to trip the light fantastic and be a kid again on an adventure. So for better or worse, with eyes wide open and Euros wide shut, I love its bits and I love it to bits. Grin

Glad you enjoyed it, Talismanic Mark... and so happy to run into an old friend! Cheesy

In fact, you started me on my Talisman journey-- I played my first game of Talisman with your gameboard back at the now-defunct Chinoy's. Just over a week later, I drop by my aunt's house for a visit for a social function I no longer remember. To pass the time, she invited me to explore her storeroom. She mentioned she had "a few games" inside.

A few was an understatement. She had boxes and boxes of assorted toys, games, and action figures.

And wonder of wonders, I saw a familiar box on a side table, along with other games, all under a simple glass case.

It was Talisman! I asked my aunt how she happened to have it. She then said the magic words:"You want it? Its yours."

Did I mention she used to own a little store called Nova Fontana?

Its been rarely played with since, kept in a display case just like my aunt did. I'm glad it went to a good home Cheesy

Glad to see you again man! Hope to join you guys at the Fort soon!

I haven't heard mention of this place for the loooongest time. You're a Blue Eagle, I suppose?

Is Chinoy's the place that ran Magic toruneys on the second floor? I remember that. Cheesy And then later on, reading Vertigo and Dragonlance at Hobby Stop.

Yup, Chinoys used to run magic tourneys. Got killed by a draw-200-cards-Braingeyser in the fourth turn there...

Am Maroon actually, used to drop by the place every now and then. Was blown away by the passion and caliber of fellow gamers even then. Cheesy

Sadly my aunt isnt around anymore. I never did find out what happened to the majority of her collection. I DO remember seeing an uncut sheet of black-bordered Magic cards under the glass of a coffee table. She said she was offered exclusive dealership of Magic when it first came out. In a decision she later described as extremely silly she turned down the offer... Tongue

Wow. That's an awesome story. Your aunt sounds like some gaming demi-god of yesteryear. Cheesy
