Agricola Tournament
«
on:
July 27, 2011, 03:11:59 PM »
I'm planning an Agricola Tournament. No set date yet but I want to gauge interest. So far the people who want this to happen are:
1. Jay
2. Adrian
3. Hans
4. Fab1
5. Nathan
6. Tom
7. deepthought
8. Earl
9. Cath
10. jorels
11. togashi
Let me know if you guys will be interested.
Tentative rules:
-Agricola base set will be used. No Farmers of the Moor expansion. Deck to be used will be E, I, K and G decks. Rounds are all 4-player games
- Card Drafting will be used for Minor Improvement and Occupation cards. Each player will be given 8 cards per type (2 E, 2 I, 2 K and 2 G cards). They will choose one Minor Improvement and one Occupation Card then pass it on the left. (The last card is discarded)
-A list of banned cards will be announced soon
Tournament goes as follows:
Round 0
A round will be played to determine seeding of each player (opponents randomly determined). Depending on Win/Loss and Score difference will determine their opponents for round 1
Round 1
Depending if we 16 participants or 8 we will have 4 or 2 simultaneous games running (differences will be filled by "swing" players). The winner and 2nd placer advance to the next round
Round 2
Same as Round 1 2 simultaneous rounds. If there were only 8 players this would already be the finals to determine the winner.
Round 3
Will only occur if we have 9-16 participants. Finals
Seeding Rules
Players will be ranked depending on performance in Round 0 based on Wins and Score (Score will be tie breaker). They will then be placed a follows:
ranked players by table:
In a 16-player tournament
table 1: 1 8 9 16
table 2: 2 7 10 15
table 3: 3 6 11 14
table 4: 4 5 12 13
winners of table 1 faces winners of table 4. winners of table 2 and 3 face-off.
In a 8-player tournament
table 1: 1, 4, 5, 8
table 2: 2, 3, 6, 7
The top seed on each table (1st to 4th place) also get another advantage... They get to decide who is the beginning first player. Turn order then follows sequence.
Miscellaneous rules
In order to keep the tournament on schedule a 1 and a half minute time limit per action disc will be enforced. If time expires he will be given 10 seconds to make a decision. If he still cannot make a decision the worker disc itself is forfeited (as if he placed it on a "blank" action space) and play continues
Let me know what you guys think

2 mins per action disc is already 16 mins per round while nobody has taken family growth yet. And that's assuming there are no werewolves and Earth girls aren't easy.

Since its an Agricola Tournament, why not have the prize be an expansion pack of choice; or if the winner doesn't have the game, the base set?
Just a suggestion....

People would need to contribute. I was thinking 50php per person for the prize that I have in hand.
Pero kung base game or expansion...medyo mabigat dapat yung contribution.

Let's do it sa Galleria para we can start early? sa august?
I was discussing this with some people and we don't think it should be during a kickstart event. It should have its own time and venue separate from the OGM. The tournament will require all players to be invested in the tournament for at least 8 hours. That would mean:
1. That would mean less volunteers since they would all be playing.
2. We will be pressed for time since Galleria will be telling us to leave at a certain point. We need a certain flexibility with the schedule
3. Those people playing will no longer be able to play different games with other people to have fun... which is what the OGM/Kickstart is all about.
As for prizes... well the reality is that most tournaments with prizes rely on sponsors and/or donations (Which is why I donated a Starcraft copy during the last tournament I hosted). In my experience putting a registration fee just to have a prize tends to limit the number of participants and the prize won't be so great (great prizes require even greater cost so that would mean the reg fee would need to be really high). Example: The cap of the tournament is 16 people and if you want a board game that costs an average of 3000 pesos to be the prize that would mean each person has to contribute 180+ pesos each. It may seem low to some of you but trust me that amount is enough to deter a significant amount of people
Realistically, If you guys want a good prize then someone has to be generous enough to donate one
