I don't remember the reason, but I found this last night on youtube.  The entire movie is here.  If you enjoyed all those B-movies from the 80's, then this one is a "classic".  It's got a very young Charlie Sheen and Randy Quaid.

I remember that one Smiley They used the Ford pace car as the Wraith's ride.  Nice looking car!

Here's a clip from one of the races: The Wraith vs a Trans Am Smiley
Get a load of the Wraith's engine at 2 seconds into the clip  Shocked

Actually, the Wraith's car, a "Turbo Interceptor", was a Dodge MS4 prototype.  There were only 4 that were factory made, and there are a few more that were created by fans.

If I remember right, the MS4 went on to be the basis for the Dodge viper.  Don't quote me on that, but I thought I read that somewhere.

no worries. After I read what I wrote, it's not the MS4, it was the M4S prototype.  If you watch the movie in it's entirety, there is not one Ford in it.  All the cars are Chrysler and GM makes.  This was the time Chrysler and GM were trying to make a comeback in the American Automarket.  I remember when the Dodge Daytona, the first white car the Corvette races, came out.  It was marketed as a sports car, but was about as aggressive as a 1962 Volkswagon Beetle.
