I only discovered the TV series Doctor Who when they continued it back in 2005 with Christopher Eccleston as the 9th Doctor and have continued following it ever since. Its thanks to Talismanic that I have been able to discuss the Doctor Who universe and learn more about it and its history (and watch a couple of recommended episodes from the past Doctors, mostly Tom Baker). It has also come to my attention that there are numerous other people who follow the series and that number seems to be growing.

I find it interesting to share and discuss what makes Doctor Who great. Whether its recommending good episodes, sharing favorite cast members or asking and answering questions about the show.

There are others who are still catching up, so for those who will include episode spoilers in their posts, please put a warning. Smiley

My current favorite episodes include:
S02E04 -The Girl in the Fireplace
S03E10 -Blink
S05E04-05 -The Time of Angels (pt 1)
                 -Flesh and Stone (pt 2)
S06E04 -The Doctor's Wife

As for my favorite Doctor, it used to be David Tennant hands down, but Matt Smith has been growing on me and now I find it hard to choose between the two of them.  Cheesy

Which weeping angels episode? The one with David Tennant (Blink) or Matt Smith (The Time of Angels) playing the Doctor? Both are among my favorites, but I like Blink more! Smiley

To me, what sets Doctor Who apart from the other sci-fi shows is his quirkiness. He isn't cool, masculine with a laser gun and a giant spaceship and/or robot. He's just this weird, mysterious guy who wins the day with his wits... that to me is more entertaining

I liked the Time of Angels two-parter as well Smiley I also liked the finale of Matt Smith's first season (The one with the pandoricum)

But the Doctor does an awful lot of running.  I think you have to be amazingly fit to do that much running.  Grin

Definitely more fit than I am. I just went about 2 1/2 km alternating jogging and brisk walking and my thighs are already aching to the point that I don't know how I'll climb the RR stairs tom.

But as Jay was saying, the Doctor is a unique character using his wits and non-violent tools (3 of them with the current Doctor I think) to save the day. Its that persona that David Tennant delivered well. I originally found Matt Smith a bit over acting, but he eventually grew on me.

True true, the doctor rarely uses guns and prefers to outwit his opponents, something that has always made him stand out for me when I was a kid in PNG.

I definitely recommend watching "Pyramids of Mars"; "Talons of Weng Chiang"; and "Genesis of the Daleks" from the Tom Baker era. The special effects won't be so great but they are still relatively decent, and these story arcs have very good pace, plotting, and atmosphere.

The Deadly Assassin; Mind of Morbius; Hand Of Fear; Terror of Fang Rock; and Pirate Planet are also worth a look.

I'm still looking for a copy of Pyramids of Mars. The file I've found is over 4,000mb. Tongue

Funny comment from Facebook re: "The Doctor's Wife" episode:

The House: "Fear me. I've killed hundreds of Time Lords."
The Doctor: "Fear me. I've killed all of them."
The House: "But... what about the ones I've killed - you didn't kill them."
The Doctor: "Good point. Erm... Fear me, I've killed... most of them. Some of them. The rest of them."
The House: "And you didn't really kill them, you just sort of suspended them in a time loop. Not as ruthless as, say, sucking out their life force while cannibalising their bodies and co-opting their voices to lure more to a similar, grisly demise, now is it?"
The Doctor: "Look, I've... ok, you want a jelly baby?"
