I really like horror-themed games.  I once bought Mythos CCG as I just discovered H.P. Lovecraft at that time and understood how a card game set in his universe can be exciting to play!  The game won several awards but unfortunately Cthulhu and H.P. Lovecraft's work was not very well-known here before especially with only B-Movie films existing and being just loosely based on the author's work.  So I did not find a single person who I can play that Mythos CCG game.

Now, there is the "Call of Cthulhu" CCG set in the same H.P. Lovecraft universe.  I am now kinda more experienced with games having played MTG and others.  So I feel a little turned-off by the CCG aspect of the game.  But since its "Call of Cthulhu", I may just be persuaded to try it... if I can find somebody to play with.  So I would like to know if anybody is playing this game here?  How did you find it?  ?!

I've literally heard horror stories of the Call of Cthulhu game.  I myself haven't really seen a rulebook, or a session being played.  I'm actually surprised to know that it actually has a CCG line.

IMHO, they should have made it NCCG instead ^v^

Yeah I totally agree with you.  Here is a link to the official site for more info: http://www.cthulhuccg.com/.  It's by FFG and I think Neutral Grounds also sells this product.

yeah, NG still has some, I think.

I was going to beta it before...as I was a volunteer for Fantasy Flight's Game of Thrones CCG, but I guess laziness got in the way (or maybe my subconscious told me that it was a bad game for my sanity! Cheesy )

I haven't tried it...but if the GoT CCG is a gauge, then it should be a decent game.

Cthulhu ftagn!!!!

Reminds me of the Arkham Horror board game - has anyone played that?

Let us think the unthinkable, let us do the undoable, let us prepare to grapple with the ineffable itself, and see if we may not eff it after all.

I'm a Lovecraft fan (I have L's literary works, radio plays based on his works, works by L's friends, films based on the works, and PC games). For tabletop games, I only have the Mythos standard game set. I'll see if Neutral still has a copy of CCG mentioned below. I'm also thinking of ordering the Arkham board game.

I know this reply is more than a year and a half but I'm a big lovecraft fan. I also play both the CCG and boardgame. Let's also add the fact that I'm a newbie here. ^_^

I just recently started getting into this whole Cthulhu thing (basically while reading about Arkham Horror).  I'm not that familiar with the mythos yet, but I'm working on it.

I ran into Call of Cthulhu eventually.  In case some of you haven't heard yet, FFG's converting this (and AGoT) into a "living card game" format (fixed expansions, so it's not "collectible" in the traditional sense).  You can read about it in the game's official site.

Not sure if I'll get it, but since it won't be a CCG anymore, it's slightly more attractive to check out.

I was going to beta it before...as I was a volunteer for Fantasy Flight's Game of Thrones CCG, but I guess laziness got in the way (or maybe my subconscious told me that it was a bad game for my sanity! Cheesy )

How do you get into those things?!  Shocked

This should be good for the game.  I wonder how this "Living Card Game" will work.  I'm a little confused.  Will the whole game be converted to LCG and the collectability aspect totally removed or will there still be random cards when you buy decks/boosters?  Does LCG mean I can purchase the complete cards from all sets?  If the distribution/packaging is gonna be like "Blue Moon", I would most probably get into this game.

Honestly, I don't understand why they wanted to call it a "living" card game.

Anyway, here's how I understand it:

Will the whole game be converted to LCG...
Basically yes.  The Asylum/Chapter packs will be released on spirng-summer/last Feb (Cthulhu/AGoT).  The new LCG starter sets will be released after the Asylum packs/Aug (Cthulhu/AGoT).

...collectability aspect totally removed or will there still be random cards when you buy decks/boosters?
Not totally.  The "boosters" (Asylum/Chapter packs) will be released monthly and will contain fixed cards.  For example, all bosters released on June will contain the same cards.  For some weird reason, they'll still have the concept of "rarity".

I say weird because the packs will have a fixed amount of "rares", "uncommons", and "commons".  For example, if a booster has 20 cards, there will be 2 rares, 6 uncommons, and 12 commons.  Given this, the concept of rarity appears to stem the number of copies of a certain card in the booster, not how hard it is to get (since you already know that all boosters have the same cards).  If you want to max out a rare (ex. max 3 per deck), you might have to buy 3 boosters (and have like 12 extra cards in your commons).  I don't understand what kind of secondary market or tradability this will produce since everyone who bought the same booster will ahve the same extras.  Then again, they probably have no intention of supporting a seconrady market.

Does LCG mean I can purchase the complete cards from all sets?
If you wait for the new starter set, then you won't miss a card.  I think you might practically NEED to get the starter set (unless you have enough existing cards already) since the boosters will focus on boosting.

In theory, you just get the starter set, and then purchase boosters at the particular months you think the cards will be useful.

If the distribution/packaging is gonna be like "Blue Moon", I would most probably get into this game.
From the way I understand it, it's "almost but not quite".  The boosters won't be stand-alone races or "decks", rather fixed supplements to the original game.

For my two cents, although getting a complete set of "rares" might entail you to buy boosters you don't need, it is still slightly more accessible to the casual player (who doesn't need 4 copies of of everything) than hunting down US$50 singles.

Again, I don't understand why it's called "living".  If they meant "evolving", doesn't the current money-sink CCG style "evolve" you decks as well?

Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game, as the starter box is named, is now on the calendar for November 2008. This set, designed for two players, is compatible with previous editions of the Call of Cthulhu CCG, and it contains several card decks (which can be reconfigured as desired), Cthulhu figures, and game aids.

Call of Cthulhu: The Card Game has a November 2008 release date, as do two Asylum Packs, The Horror Beneath the Surface and The Spawn of the Sleeper.
